Can someone identify this in my engine bay?
![]() I just found this is broken today. It is right under the drip stick (should be connecting to the square metal). |

identify this thread, and it looks like the broken hose bends to the AC? Follow the hose, wherever it goes.

yes, my AC does not work recently. What might causes it? it is broken like it had taken a heavy impact and got it knock off.
Here is an indication, and shows how the whole piece goes. ![]() |

Thats your ac line.
Most likely it craked due to time...and released all the freon inside. Go to a junkyard. Get that line. Grab a r134a kit, or try to find an old r12 ac kit. Recharge it...and you should be set again.

Aluminum. Very common to break on 96+ models. They're different per year, get the correct one or you've bought a useless line.

you just murdered your ac system. water and air destroy the compressor.
you have to get the refrig oil out and than all the air and moisture that comes with the air. also the filter is dead. tits up. |

if the system is opened the receiver/drier will need to be replaced. Common on any car. The compressor shouldn't be damaged though unless it's seen actual water intrusion from rain, condensation, or humidity. The oil level also is fine, it's pressurized within the system but drains back down when it's off, adding a few drops with the new line wouldn't hurt though. Best bet if you can't find a matching line locally or from a parts car is to go new at the dealer, I think you're looking at maybe $40-80 for that line, it separates at the firewall.

air contains water vapour. dryer is saturated with water. refrig oil is dry which means it attracts water vapour. at the minimum you have to vacuum pump out the air and water vapour. prolly be water trapped under the oil. as you lower pressure the water will boil and be sucked out of system but you have to do very good job or your compressor wont last long.
