ignition coil check

somebody told me to check the ignition coil because it might have something to do with the bad idling every time I start the car. I don't have a manual for my car so I used a Nissan maxima manual because the coil look similar. I tryed to check the resistance between the three terminals, but no reading and then I check the spark, and it look a little weak but don't really know how big it supposed to be.
can somebody tell me the proper way to check the ignition coil?

this is what I found before I post

If you have a multimeter, set it to measure OHMs, put your negative point on one end and your positive to the other and obtain a reading. Your resistance should not be more than 70ohms or so.

It's not very specific, but the only reading I got was the resistant of the plug to the ignition coil, it was about 80 ohms.
