SR What engine management options?

So im trying to do everything at once but ofter buying all my internals im all out. Im a dsm guy and my options were dsmlink and safc. Now I didnt like the safc, but for sr20z what low budget ems can I get. And yes in the future I do plan to get a power fc. Oh also I dont know if custom tune would be good since im going to be breaking in my engine with one setup then running a complete different one.
Thanks

Well if you're are looking for budget then go w/the safc for as short a time as possible, and then upgrade to the PFC Also, what is an sr20z? Do you mean sr20 in a z?

Thumbs up

Do yourself a favor and dont go the SAFC route, and I'm speaking from experience as I am also a DSM-er. The closest option you have to get standalone capabilities for piggyback pricing and similar style of operation as DSM link is Nistune or Calumsult. Both are almost exactly the same as DSM link in the sense that you pretty much chip a stock ECU and then are able to tune/datalog in real time using a laptop.

An SAFC used is like $150 possibly over $300 for a new SAFC NEO as you can no longer buy SAFCIIs brand new unless they are old stock. I payed $365 plus shipping to get it there for Calumsult and he covered the return shipping. So for under $400 I was able to get my stock ecu chipped and part of his service includes a base tune for your setup and a usb cable that connects your ECU to your laptop.

Then you use any variety of open source tuning programs including Tuner Pro and Tuner Pro R/T (I use them) or you can use Nistune software with a calum board etc. However nistune costs more then Calum, both for software and hardware. Either way you get similar performance from both, calum being the more affordable route.

Hope this helps a bit here are some links, if you need further help or clarification contact me directly.

^^^ Beat me to it. What he said!

You should check out NIStune if your looking for a low budget EMS. Search for it on here, should find a couple threads about it. Or check out NIStune - Nissan Realtime ECU tuning

Just be careful about picking ems' based on price/other ppl opinions(not saying anything negative about the prior post), etc. I got my haltech b/c a the familiarity of the ems, with local tuners. Unless you are tuning it yourself, I would suggest asking local tuners what they are good with.

As a dyno tuner I have tested all of the above and tuned nissans with them

If you absolutely have to go piggy back, check out the AEM piggy back unit.

It is the only way to go.

But above statements are correct at least get the consult or if you can a Power FC or Rytech is also a good option.

My favorite of all is the Haltech EMS, nothing manages better than a Haltech, which is why record outputs are almost always cars using Haltech.

I have a power fc but I don't have a local tuner. The closest and cheapet is 2 hours away, which I don't mind but he can only fcdataloggit. And MA Motorsports is like 4 hours and I gotta drop my car off for 2 days and I got quoted $1200.00 for the tune.

Should I go with rs-enthalpy or JWT and get my stock computer tuned? Has anyone delt with either or both? What do you say about them?

Or should I keep the PFC and get it tuned with fc dataloggit? What is the difference in Fcdataloggit and what a power excel dealer can do?

I cant say in incredibly good but I managed to get 500+ out of my dsm with me tuning it, so i think i could handle it i just wanted to know what is good on the nissans. Because i have no clue. Would love to have the money for AEM but cant right now, sr20 parts are EXPENSIVE .

THANKS

JWT does wonders. Honestly, the best bang for people who can't find a reputable shop to give a good tune. Never have I seen one ECU not run perfect out of the box. Just send them your ECU, specify your MAF, injector size, and rev limit. They do have a good turn around time too. If you have a good tuning shop around you though, I'm sure they can tweak more power out... just because you'll be tuned in your elevation, and on your vehicle, etc. I think JWT has to give a more universal type setting if you get what I'm saying.

used PFC's are going for 5-600 all day on here, you could probably even get a d-jetro (map) for ~8-900. why spend 300+ on piggy backs that dont even have a rev limiter?

Hey rotation3x, I got a tuned ecu by Jim wolf, tuned for Z32 maf and 550Cc injectors, also had a switch put in to switch the map for running 100 octane.
I did a baseline dyno with the stock injectors, stock turbo, and stock maf, and got 217 at the wheels@13psi, I installed their ecu, changed the maf and the injectors, went to the dyno and did 195 at the wheels at 13.5 psi,
I spent about 900 with tax included from the ecu tune from Jim wolf, when I called them to complain about their crappy power robbing tune they told me that there must be something wrong with my engine and that its not their tune. They give me thn run around when I call them to correct the problem.
I really recommend a engine management that allows you to know what your car is tuned at.
Save money til you can buy the stand alone. Do it right the first time
