Lightbulb Somewhat Easy Brake Light Mod

I have changed the 3rd brake light in my '90 hatchback to 9 LEDs instead of the 2 regular bulbs that were in there. Here is a link to some pictures of how I did it. It's on a Minnesota Probe Owners Club website so I don't want any comments about that. I hope someone can benefit from this, and tell me what you think.Link to Pics

Looks cool...now you should retrofit your other brake lights with LEDs

Actually, that's my plan. Right now i'm just looking for a simple design that will look good back there, not flashy or anything. Another problem is that it's a bitch to take out the tailights and I need the car to drive so I think I'll buy a junk tailight or something to play around with. When I have everything figured out, then I'll take off the ones I have.

I bought a tailight from a junk yard and tried taking off the red and yellow lenses apart from the housing and it didnt work. I unscrewed all the screws and tried a heat gun for the glue stuff that they used but just ended up melting the plastic lenses. Anyone have any ideas on what can work on separating those pieces or will this just come out to be a lot bigger project than I thought?

you might consider trying to just sand/grind down the layer of orange-- if in fact it's just a layer and not completely orange plastic... then maybe do some light sanding so you still have a diffused light look, and slap an orange bulb in there so it's legal.

You don't understand my project idea. I want to put LED lights behind the stock lenses, not make the lenses clear. That is why I wanted to take the red and yellow plastic lenses off so I could wire a PC board with LEDs and put it behind there. Any suggestions?
