V-mount intercooler setups.
i am thinking about doing one on my car before the engine goes back in after the rebuild. but i'm not sure where to start. i seared and only found info on front mounts.
my current/previous setup is just a basic big front mount with custom piping, and a koyo aluminum radiator with dual fans. what all is needed to do this? where would i find an intercooler for this application? can i still use my koyo? any information is greatly appreciated. |

I have seen multiple ways on how to do a v-mount setup. I see it as it comes down to the fabricator honestly. You can still use your koyo, obviously though you will need to make your own radiator hoses. I would consider getting an intercooler that is designed (end tank inlet and outlet wise as well as a tube and fine construction if possible) for a v-mount.
One big advantage to running v-mount is the fact you have less IC piping so why not get the intercoolers that are intended for v-mounts? It saves even more piping if you get the correct IC. Also use puller fans and locate them on the side of the rad that is facing the ground. I have seen a few people run their fans on top of the radiator if you will but I see this as only subtracting the amount of surface area your radiator has plus it disrupts the flow by creating a whirl pool effect. Some modification may need to be done to the radiator support depending on how you design the bracketry for the IC and rad. I do not have any pics on how I've done them or how we did a few other cars in town but I can tell you that it is well worth the time and effort. None of us have ever experienced any heating issues and the spool up time is cut down significantly. Throttle response FTW! |

kevin, i definitely plan on talking to clemens about it. i'm just looking for more info on it to see if it is even in my price range. i was originally going to just replace my leaky intercooler piping with a nicer kit, but a V mount has been on my mind lately.

biggest problem i had running the vmount (beside the IC that cracked) was working on th ecar.
u gotta pull the IC to do anything.in front of th emotor. Also - i ran a inline coolant can filler thingerator. jegs sells em - makes coolant stuff cake. and dont do a write up - make everyone fab their own up. that seperates men from boys.

how much fabrication was involved? i know i will need a new intercooler, piping, and new radiator hoses, but mounting everything up is very foreign to me.
having custom piping made is no big deal, i just dont know about anything else. |

honestly i dont think its that much fabing up to do , i would get a piping , cut end tanks and have them on the face of the fmic so less bends and closer ,
get a water air seperator , that way its alot easier to work with coolant , get coolant hoses , and make sumthin to divert the air into the V , and make a bracket for the setup to sit on if you have welding skills , not to hard |

McRussellPants has a really nice v-mount set up, but don't expect to get any reasonable questions answered by him. He speaks "Texas"

Id stick with a FMIC if you want reliability in cooling.... But yeah here's my old Vmount kit... was around 2,000USD all up from a company who was making proper kits using Garrett core's and proper radiator cores... you can't see much but yeah lol.

Honestly bro, I wouldn't overcomplicate your setup. Somewhat knowing you drive you car on the street and track, I'd personally just recommend a stacked style intercooler/rad.
Shoot me a pm if you're interested, I'm looking for some winter projects.

looks good by why not run a shroud on the back of the radiator still. is it because the fan is set to pull instead of push? I dunno these things, explain.
