LT1 powered S14

Here is a link to an LT1 powered S14
http://www.limecreekmotorsports.com/project240SS.htm

Project 240SS as it is bieng called, first ran a 14.3117 @ 77.34 MPH, but w/ a 1.99 60' and 8.8438 1/8th. Lots of problems on run here is the story
Quote:
Friday night I drove from Austin to RCR to find out what the 240 runs.

Well, the trip didn't start off so good. Traffic in Austin on I-35 is a *****! My electrical fans shut off unexpectedly in traffic, and the heat shot up to 265°
2 hours later after chasing down the electrical short in the fans to a connection under the dash that had come loose and refilling the then empty radiator (it overflowed like a mofo and melted the bottom out of the plastic overflow tank) we were back on the road to RCR.

It was cold, and we were all hoping for good numbers from our cars.

Get to RCR, change to the ET Streets, and go watch a few runs while the car cools down. When we get back to the car there is a small puddle of dexcool under my car towards the back of the motor. Not sure if it was from mine or not, I started the car up and it seemed to run ok.

Did my burnout and pulled up to the tree. Everything is looking good, and the car seems to be running great. Tight turns green and the ccar squats HARD and leaves with a 1.99 60'.
Shift into 2nd at 5400 and all looks good. The car is pulling hard, and just keeps pulling.
Cross the 1/8th and bang into 3rd. That's when it got bad. Apparantly there was a light misting of water on the big end of the track, and my slicks broke loose. The rear end walked back and forth and I let off the gas.
Nice 1/8th pass, but still no clue about a correct 1/4 time.
Time slip:

Later on was fixed and ran a 13.7

Do you know a price on that? I'd expect much more from a LT-1 aluminum block V-8 in a 2800 pound car.

I am not too sure on price, try going to http://www.limecreekmotorsports.com/ and email them. I would also expect it to be faster, unless it is a bad driver, or they are still trying to get it to run properly.

My only response is "why?" for the amount of money and work done to get that engine in there, a turboed KA or SR swap would give better results. Not to mention that I HATE pushrod engines. Talk about going back in time :P

Imagine what it'd be w/ an LS1 instead of LT1 (I hear grunting......lol)

This car's been posted here before.

I'm still scratching my head as to why anyone would bother building a 240SX drag car like this.

You could build a V8 240SX that handled well, VERY well; but you'd have to do it differently. For one, use a lighter transmission than the archaic TH350. Use an aluminum head LT1 from a Camaro/Firebird instead of the unnecessarily heavy all-iron Roadmaster motor. Better yet, use an all-aluminum LS1.

I'm rather surprised they describe the 240SX as squatting HARD as that's what the suspension is designed NOT to do.

I'll be impressed when someone does it right (aluminum heads, modern transmission).

Yeah, I have seen this car in person. I can say that the swap is pretty clean...but A LOT of corner were cut!! The stock rear end (welded together) was not a good idea from the get go. The car put down p00p for dyno numbers...but sure did sound pretty mean. With a little more work and fine tuning it could be a pretty nice car...but still its like someone tried to do a $2000 job for $1000.

Wrong. That's the place where we are talking barriers. Going v8 vs kat or sr is the same as going kat or sr vs na. At some point you will hit a limit. A turbo v8 will go waaaaay farther than kat or sr

And btw, the guy is on this and 240sx msg boards. If i recall correctly his nick is ares.

If you read at the end, it gives a 13.7 1/4. Also, that 1/8 mile (that was good), when put through a calculator, give a 13.8 1/4.

I tried searching for all of his posts (such as the one where he claims he beat a Viper) but they are all gone, most of them. A few people from his area called him out and says he is a liar. I don't know much about that.

One post I did find of his says he put down 209hp and 290tq with a blown headgasket.

Aries said he beat a Viper?!?!?!? Hmmm...not sure about all that. Like I said before...the car has major pimp factor, sounds mean as hell...but when he dyno'd it (in front of my own eyes) he put down **** for numbers.

either you like my car or you don't.
I don't particularly care.
The car was built to my tastes, and runs much better times now that all the bugs have been worked out.

It's like an opinion of rice or nice.
Everyone has their own ideas of what they like.

Total price with mods is about $12,000 plus the cost of the car, and I'm happy with it.

No.. I think that you've gotten things all wrong. I was just asking why it's not running faster, and now that you are posting, I can ask you what kind of power you are getting to the ground. 209rwhp seems very, very low for an LT-1.
The other people on here have their heads so far up their assess that they lick their tonsils. Having an LT-1 engine in a 240sx buy far will exceed the power levels that any SR or KA will make. I think that it's awesome... not to mention that you're the only one in the world with one. Personally, for $12k, I would have an AWD rb26dett motor.. but the V-8 is so much easier to work on, cheaper to repair, and many times cheaper to modify.
So.. what kind of power are you putting down, and what do you expect to be putting down later?

I wasn't saying that an SR or turbo KA had more potential in the long run. I was saying for the same amount of money he could have a faster car than he has now.

As Aries said himself though, it does come down to a matter of taste as to whether you like the car or not. Personally it's not my thing. I do, however, have a lot of respect for someone who can put that engine into the bay of a 240sx. That's quite impressive in itself.
