One time I got reffed in my civic a while back
For a damn intake
I didn't know what to do and waited till the court date, still drove my car
When I saw the judge she thought it was a exhaust ticket and charged me $30
Idk maybe you can get lucky dude

If that was the case the NEW owner of the car would be required to smog it by law, but that isn't how "selling a car" law works.

indeed he does. Regardless of getting rid of a car if you get a ticket be it ref or not you pay the fine. As far as the new owner goes if a car gets a ref ticket and the person just pays the fine and sells the car the new owner is still on the hook to smog the car. Per California law smog is the responsibility of the seller. Though lots of people sell cars without smogging them and leave the burden to the buyer. Thing is very few people go back and tell the person they are buying the car from "hey you need to smog it". Usually because they get a deal on the car anyways.

i talk to a buddy of mine (who has had numerous ref tickets) and he said that he has used the sale of a car to get out of a ref ticket. just told the judge he sold the car showed him a bill of sale and the judge dismissed it.
