help looking for quick release steering wheels

Hi guys. I need some help finding a good quick release steering wheel that's no higher then a $400 price range, but i'd be willing to go as high as $450 AFTER tax/S&H are included.

I just got my first S14 Zenki this past weekend and after owning a somewhat fixed up Integra and getting jacked I'm a bit on the paranoid side. One of the things i want to do to the car to minimize any chances of someone driving away with it is adding a quick release steering wheel. However, I haven't a clue where to start or what questions i should ask myself when looking for the right steering wheel to buy. I've searched online and there are tons of steering wheels. It's like I dont know where to begin.

* Are all aftermarket race wheels compatible with quick release hub kits or is there a certain type of steering wheel i should look for?

* Speaking strictly about quick release steering wheels, are there only some steering wheels that allow for you to add the horn or do they all offer that feature, or is this a custom job we need to do on our own?

* Why do I need a hub lock? Is it really a worthwhile investment? Isn't the car safe enough leaving it without the steering wheel, or how greater do the chances of not having your car stolen become if a hub lock is on as opposed to leaving the hub exposed?

* I've noticed NRG quick release hubs seems to be pretty popular and inexpensive when compared to other quick release kits, but I havent a clue just how good NRG products are. Is it a very well made product? Is the low price a clue to the quality of the product? I certainly dont want the wheel to pop off while im driving.

* I'd like to be able to connect the horn back onto the aftermarket steering wheel. An all black or CF wheel would be nice, perhaps leather made since it lasts longer then swede. The reason why it would be a good idea to have a hub lock and not leave your hub exposed, is because you are not the only one with a quick release!!! if you leave your hub exposed and i know what kind of quick release your running, i can just bring my own steering wheel with the same quick release and pop into your car and drive away with a big grin!!!

That almost sounds like the thieves would be people you know.

Can you guys recommend any dealers with reasonable prices on packages. If i can buy everything with one vendor then that would save me time instead of shopping for the lock here, for the hub over there and the steering wheel down there.

i have and use a Works Bell quick release. it has contacts for the horns and things so you do not have to worry about that part.

I dont know about your area but there's not really a need for me to have a hub lock.

im guessing stick with a trusted brand since you probably do not want your steering wheel popping off mid-drift or just driving around.

If your budget is ~$400, then you might have to go with a NRG quick release especially if you want a decent steering wheel.

My setup consists of a 330mm Personal Neo Grinta steering wheel, Works Bell short hub, and a NRG gen.2 quick release.

While I was shopping around for my setup, Logan told me that if anything, I should get a Works Bell hub because it comes with the turn signal cancel, airbag light resistor, and the torx key you need to take off your stock wheel.

Also, the Works Bell short hub + regular size quick release + non-dish steering wheel is pretty close to a stock steering wheel setup, distance wise.

Check out the Advertisor's Specials section here in the marketplace and you will find plenty of vendors with deals on steering wheels. I personally suggest Aspec as I have dealt with Tuan personally and have had no problems.

Brand new Personal or Nardi wheel - ~$240
Works Bell hub - ~$150 (i think)
NRG quick release - ~$100
= $490

So, a little over your price range but then again, you can find lots of good deals on new and used stuff if you just have patience and search around.

I have a Works Bell Rapfix II + Works Bell Lock in silver, condition are very good and I only use them on the track and drove it 5 times a month or many less. So the lock are barely even use it but it missing one key not sure where I store it just can't find it. Retail at SuperAutoBacs are $298 for the Rapfix II and retail for the Works Lock is $90!! and not inculding tax and gas money to drive to the store yet!!

I also have some JDM color steering wheel that I can let it go for pretty good price!!

ADDED: Why pick Works Bell??

Answer: Because they made in high quality parts, more reliable (not easy break like the NRG), and lighter.

For the $100 more, is it really worth it? If someone is out to get your car and knows what quick release setup you have then there's really no way to avoid it. When they make their move they'll be prepared and looking at that video those locks seem to be as easy to pick as the "club" you mount across the steering wheel.

Anything to make it more difficult for a thief to steal my car is worth it imo.
Any lock can be compromised but that's why its a theft deterrent, not theft-proof.

exactly! any lock can be picked with the right know how, from your car to your house. you just have try and slow theives down. the time they may take to pick a lock or disarm an alarm etc you or someone else might catch em. so a hub lock is a good investment. if that's the take all the locks to your house off and keep that same attitude. that video was probably made by some thief to make people like you say what's the point of having a lock let make it easier for someone to take my car, lol..

I agree, the more theft deterents the better. Anything that will take them longer to steal the car is a plus. I say get the quick release with the lock, an alarm, and a kill switch. That's what I plan on doing. So 1st they would have to get past the alarm, then pick the steering wheel lock, then disable the kill switch. On top of that they would just so happen to have their own steering wheel with them.

I got a $40 quik release and a ebay steering wheel for next to nothing, lol.

It works great and I can't tell the difference.
I daily and track drift my car as well.
the ebay wheel has lasted for almost 2 years now without even a single thread coming undone.

If you want to be a baller though, that one above sounds like a deal. especially if you want the lock.

You can also wire your ignition through a button in your car, the dash. wire your clutch pedal wire through a button anywhere you want( in your door pouch, down low? ).

of course, they can pop the clutch.
but it all helps.

now days though, it doesnt matter.
Lots of members get their cars taken on the backs of trailers.

Picking locks is really easy actually.
from houses to cars.
Its all the same concept.
alot of people actually like to do it as a hobby or challenge and dont actually do it illegally.

In the video, he puts tension on the lock with that first piece he slides in. then you just have to push the "tumblers" up while maintaining tension.
just like a house lock, its pretty simple.
there are thousands of videos and how to's on youtube.
Incase you need to break into somewhere to get secret plans to save the world I guess??lol

your car key is double sided and makes it a little more difficult. But older 240 keys are pretty universal.
maybe you should get newer locks off of some sort of Nissan??
that might help, cause I know me and half the 240 guys i know can open and start each others cars. lol

asking all these questions, you could have bought a wheel, hub, qr, and installed it already. who cares about the lock? just buy it later if you want to.
