car grinds when cranking. HELP!!!!

had my sr swap done for about 2 weeks now, finally finished all the troubleshooting and mishaps (no fuel,no spark, ect....). took it out for a test drive. car started to grind. sounded like i was over cranking the car when it was already on, or sounded like when you put your car in 1st gear when the car is moving without stepping on the clutch. then the car died and from then on everytime i tried to crank it the grinding comes back on. but only comes on when it started to turn over. so yea i honestly dont know what happen? starter went out? spun a bearing in my transmission? any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Maybe the teeth on the starter are worn or skipping?

None of the above tells us much about your problem, if anything at all.

Does the car go into gear or not, with difficulty or not, does the trans engage and disengage, smoothly or not? When exactly does the noise occur, and be more specific.

1st things first.. Have someone pump the clutch pedal while you watch for movement from the slave cylinder.

my bad, i had too much on my mind. yea the car goes into gear, when i put it in gear and turn it on it jumps everytime i crank but when it turns over it crank. the transmission made noise when i engage but 95% of the time it happen when i engage on 1st gear. so clutch probably going out too?? but i have a feeling it could be my starter, cause the grinding sound only comes on now when the engine tries to turn over. so i think i have 2 problems, one is tranny/clutch problems which idc right about now cause thats an easy fix, and 2nd is maybe starter??? or something in my block?? thats what im more worry about, transmission/clutch can wait. hope thats some of the info you needed, agian any help would be appreciated thanks.

I mean in the engine. I put about a quart too much the first time I started my SR. Starter would grind on the flywheel.

/\/\ wtf are you talking about? please explain to me how too much oil would cause your starter to grind on the flywheel.

op, it sounds like you have worn teeth on your flywheel. you can check this by removing your starter and visually inspecting the teeth. k?

dunno. i guess it was harder for the motor to turn with too much oil in it. beats me.

Could be worn teeth or you starter isn't disengaging all the way after the engine starts.

If you put the trans in neutral and it grinds when you try to start it, then you either have a chewed-up tooth or two on the flywheel or your starter-solinoid is not ingaging the flywheel all the way in which case you'll end up with chewed-up/missing teeth on the flywheel anyway...just my two cents!.

Gotta be the teeth of the starter. I had the same problem with mine. Took the starter out and got it rebuild. Just make sure when you put it back its nice and snuggled in there.

turns out my starter is perfectly fine. got it tested and it runs like it should. so i think its the teeth in my flywheel that is mess up. cant really check it out right now cause no one is with me to crank my car so i could see if its chipped. but im 95% sure its my flywheel then cause i dont think theres another way it would be grinding? ill keep it updated. lmk if you guys think its something else thanks!

your starter is fine but what about the teeth on that? Because for your flywheel teeth to get all messed up, how about the starter naw'mean. but goodluck
