reliability upgrades?
I have a 1990 240 with a stock turbo sr with 70k miles on the engine and 200k on the body. here are the specs:
Redtop sr20det Ebay FMIC Mishimoto Radiator Exedy Stage 2 Clutch Greddy RS BOV Enjuku Racing hotpipe with Greddy flange custom 3 inch exhaust with Invidia muffler Walbro 255 fuel pump Rebuilt tranny Shaved flywheel Nismo tranny mounts APR headstuds and headgasket Tuned ECU Boost Controller/Turbo timer i just got a job delivering food and drive about 90 miles a day, 5 days a week. are there any things i should spend my first pay checks on to keep my car running well and reliable since i drive it so much? I got the job so i can save up for a gt2871r turbo and all the other stuff i need for the upgrade but i want to make sure the car runs as well as possible while im working before starting that endevor. thanks. |

General maintenance, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, etc.
Rocker arm stoppers if you have the money. Good investment for s13 SR's. Make sure your brake pads and rotors are all okay. Just your general maintenance stuff. Maybe steel braided turbo lines. I just had a stock one break on me and got lucky to find it before I drove the car. Would have drained the oil in minutes. I would probably upgrade the intercooler just because if it's a realy crappy ebay one and doesn't cool the air enough you don't want a ton of hot air getting into your motor.

thanks man. im already getting rocker arm stoppers. do those have to be name brand? it seems like cheap ones would be just as good since its such a simple product. i guess ill replace the pads and filters while im at it.

things ive done as safety measures
oversized water pump pulley koyo rad and elec fans oil cooler + filter relocation rocker arm stoppers oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, boost gauges theres probably more. but i cant stress how important the gauges are. not having an oil pressure gauge cost me my first SR. now i wont have to worry about that anymore. i like being able to keep track of things. most of my other mods are just to keep the engine nice and cool. |

thanks. if i have a turbo timer are electric fans that important?
my list now includes: rocker arm stoppers oil and water gauges oversized water pump pulley new brake pads new fuel filter is there something i can get so i dont need a bunch of gauges on my dash? i have no room for them and dont want to drill any holes or ruin my dash. oh yeah, and once i have my new turbo setup (350-400hp) is it a bad idea to stay in the delivery business? im a college student so its a really ideal job at the moment. |

If you want reliability dont cheap out on your engine managment and make sure your tune is 100 percent spot on. If you can tune it yourself and be comfortable with your tuning abilities more power to you. But if not def. pay someone who knows their shit to tune it.

I hear Shadowerks does good tunes if you're interested. You're going to need an AFC though.
I'm going to them some time next month to get my shit tuned. |

i went with a JWT tune n i have the set up that you want to get but with BC 264/264 cams.
get the JWT tune. you wont regret it. works like stock and doesnt leave you hanging when you go into boost. plug n play muahaha however, if you are in socal steve shadows isnt a bad way to go. when i go stand alone i will have him tune my car. |

Jim Wolf is not that bad but I have noticed they have gotten a bit overly aggressive with thier timing maps...
I would go for safe and get a custom tailored tune (especially in cali) where the quality of gas is horrible. - You will end up with a smoother power band and more reliabiltiy

OEM pcv valve changes;
Amsoil fluids (3/4ths 5w30 and 1/4th 10w40 for fuel dilution)- do an Auto-rx clean/rinse before switching to the amsoil. Mobil1 oil filters, make sure you blow in the filter threaded part and test for any leakage. Honda Type II coolant Nismo thermostat Water wetter with the honda OE 50/50 mix weight reduction for clutch longevity Fidenza flywheel for bearings AIT or similar crank pulley |

idon't know about SR but here we go :
replace hoses ALL of them...you don't need a boost leak that will get you not working for atleast 2-3 days, good oil, RAS is a good thing A/F ratio gauge (AEM maybe) And TUNE TUNE TUNE... I Think That's it.. For a comfy ride..get coilovers with LOW spring rate (HKS Are 7K front and 5K rear)

I say the best relieablility mod for any engine would be a pre-luber system if you have the money. They even have ones that work on a timer so it runs for like a minute after you turn the car off eliminating the need for a turbo timer. I don't have one personally but I definitely would be installing one if I were building a motor for relieability.

agreed i dont understand why you would want to put so many miles on your car so fast, not a good idea imo, get a cheap beater car that will do the job...
