How do you install an electric fan on an s14? Anyone have a writeup or anything?

The way that I hooked up my fans:

1. Mount both fans on radiator (or one if that's your bag)
2. Tap in a 25v fuse on your power line
3. Run 12 guage or better line to a power source (I run both fans on one power source)
4. If your power source is ignition controlled then bypass the rest of the instructions
5. Run power line to toggle switch or activation module
6. Then run the power line to a fuse
7. Finally run your ground to the block where your battery is grounded or find a random bolt on the chassis to ground it

To test just flick the switch up and down 'till you get tired

An explaination of what I did:

I just ran the power line to a power source and didn't feel like tracking down an ignition controlled one so I just used a fuse in the kick panel. Since that would be on all the time I put a 25V switch from radio shack ($2.99) so I can turn it on and off at my liking. Then just mounted the switch via tie straps to the hood release cable that's under the dash area. I know it's a ghetto setup but it has worked for me since.

Feel free to e-mail me for pics or any further help

I used a 30 amp relay (supposedly made for off road fog lights) with 12 gauge wiring to power my 2 fans. Used the factory a/c condensor fan positive lead to trigger the relay that turns on the fans. The lead to the battery is protected by a 30 amp fuse.

I had previously done the a/c condensor fan modification to make it run full time. my 2 fans switch on when my car turns on (thus ignition controlled)..

I will try to borrow a camera and take pics when I can.

The 240sx.org writeup sucks...
When people say "2 fans", do you mean 2 new fans, or is there a way to leave the AC fan on there, and run a single 14" electric fan with it?

I am running two new fans. The AC fan can't support turbo charged cars, especially ones w/ FMIC. I would go w/ two 14" fans. I has worked thus far with the 85 degree weather we have had in VA the past couple of days. Just can't get boost happy

Ok here is how i have it. i tapped the fuel pump fuse (it's the in the sidewall on the left under the steering wheel, find it on the cover that you take off), then it runs to a thermo sensor, then to a fan, then 2 ground... actually i also have a diode in parallel that is mounted inside the car so i could see the fan being on (the rice factor)

edit: using a single 14" permacool fan (same as what civickilla uses on his 17psi sr).

Uhh.... u sure bout that? Maybe. I don't remember was a while ago. If you check the specs at summit. The 14" and 16" both produce 2,950cfm so i might've went for the cheaper one.... in any case, you were asking about wiring

Oh, and i should've said "used on his 17psi sr", i have no clue what fan he is using now and what psi his car is at.

Kreator,
That's my bust I should have stated those of use w/ turbo s13s get the shaft w/ no airflow when you have a FMIC. :a_mn s14s and their extra openings::

Johnathan does use the one 16" fan and it works great for him. I have two 14" fans pulling 2450cfm to be on the safe side. Plus I was overheating w/ just one fan at 14psi

heh, that just means you need an aftermarket bumper

Why did you use 2 plastic fans? I was actually toying with an idea of getting 2 14" permacools under there each pulling 2950 cfm but then i thought they might not fit plus i was kinda short on money. I made a custom shroud from a piece of alluminum from home depot. looks like **** but it works lol.

Money, money, money! For the price of two plastic fans pulling 2450cfm ($150) was a better deal to me then 1 metal at pulling 2950 ($120-$140).

I have considered the aftermarket bumper but for the time being I am considering doing some custom fabing in the meanwhile. I am attempting to get a mortgage so no more money will be going into the 240 anytime soon

anyone know of a good ignition on pwr wire located in the engine bay? It'd rather not have to run a switch in the car if i don't have to.

Stupid summer

The stock temp sensor that kicks on the mechanical fan? I think that's what I'm gonna search for.

I am using the flex a lite 12" dual electric fan setup......and stock s14 sr radiator on my s14 sr running at 15psi with 270rwhp and 270 tq without any problems........IN SUNNY TAMPA, FLORIDA....

Yes i have AC also......no problems with this setup at all....i have them wired the following way....

I am running them thru ignition on meaning key is in (both fans run) AC is on or off doesnt matter.....

than i have another wire hanging that i can plug in the control unit and this will overide the system and have the fans on at all times even when ignition is off......for emergency purposes only....

my dual 12" comes with control unit and thermostat......you can have one come on with ignition and the other come on with AC and/or at a certain TEMP......amongst other setups.......

i like the way mine is.......

i can put a cigarette infront of my front bumper inside a closed garage. the smoke is sucked in thru bumper/mesh grill/intercooler/electric fans into the engine compartment.....they got enough cfm flow......believe me.....

RINKU

here is a pic of them from flexalite.com

RINKU

PS. not a good idea to skimp on cooling in FL weather....my opinion

Also think of power to temp switch to the fan. Perma-cool sells the fan kits. Check out www.summitracing.com

You have a KA that runs 10 times as cool as an SR. Your choice of fans is very different then ours.

Jonathan paid more than 88 for his fan...maybe your looking at the wrong one

When i was talking to him, he said it was a 16" fan, it was made by permacool and pushed close to 3000cfm. Permacool only makes 1 fan like that and it costs $88.95

At any rate 2950cfm > 2450cfm. And my fan did cost $83.95

Here is a link to my fan: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rt=PRM%2D19114

Here is the 16" permacool fan. Look at it and tell me if it's what johnathan has: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rt=PRM%2D19115

PS. The fan was bought with future turbo in mind, that's the whole reason i was talking to johnathan about how was it working on his sr.
