Do you have to press your clutch to start the car?
Hey
Car is a 93 240SX I was driving my dads civic (woo hoo.) and im used to holding the key to start but then pressing tha clutch pedal to actually fire up the engine (ie it has a sensor) well the other day I tried it on my car. Never had before, although I owned it for like a year. My buddies gettin in the other side as i turn the key, no clutch, in first gear with no e-brake on..... ended up dragging him almost 15 feet before i realized what was happening. Wierd thing is that there seems to be a sensor if I look at the clutch pedal. |

Yeah there's a little plunger switch. When the clutch is all the way to the floor it pushed the plunger in and completes the circuit allowing the car to start. Sound like it's just a problem w/the switch. Untill you get it fixed just be careful

Or... do what I did. Make a jumper on the plug to avoid pressing the clutch. I did it because I installed a remote start on my car, but since I was the only one who drove it, I made sure that the car was always in neutral. BTW the piece you guys are talking about is called "Neutral Safety Switch"

Well on my 1992 I can start it without pushing the clutch in...always have been able to. Never had any problems with it but ok, I like it better that you don't since it would be real easy for remote start.

You may just want to always push the clutch all the way in and start it. I always do it on my Civic SI and my '93 240sx se its just what I was taught when I was learning to drive stick. So technicly you dont have to automaticly but its a good idea. Oh and be sure its not in gear unless on hill or so forth. Use E-brake too.
But like I said its just how I was taught and you dont have to use my advice but I always feel its better for my 240 ![]() |
