Identify This Stuff I Found In My Oil Pan!

So a friend of mine's SR developed what we thought was a slight rod knock the other day. After pulling the oil pan and replacing them one by one they all looked perfect. We were about put the oil pans, windage trays, hardware, etc... in the dishwasher when I noticed some small pieces in the lower oil pan. After pulling the valvecover and looking around the crankcase and head we are stumped as to what it might be/ have been. Maybe part of the oil pump? One of the pieces in the picture (silver in color) appears to be a c-clip. Anyone with in-depth experience of SR's please help us out!

Pics are bad. Brass part looks like it could be a valve guide, but who knows. Macro mode is your friend.

I had to google "macro" to know what the hell it was, lol. I'm a newb to cameras/ photography. Better (much better) pic added.

If it were a valve guide I don't think it could make its way to the oil pan. The pieces would just bounce around in the combustion chamber, sound like horrible detonation and score the cylinder walls.

Sorry, that quote just popped into my head but seriously if you don't know what it is please don't post.

I'm going to compression test the motor tomorrow. My best guess for right now though is that it might be related to the system. Relief valve or regulator valve?

Nope, they're all intact. Everything that is visible with the oilpan and valvecover off looks good. I've been going through the FSM (http://bumnah.com/fsms/S14/S14_SR20DET_FSM.pdf) and the diagram on pg. 123 show the regulator valve assembly. The relief valve is part of the oil filter so I don't think that could be it.

looks like pieces from the T25 turbo, the journal bearing and the bearing C-clip

it possible since the oil return is fairly wide enough.

the silver one is also part of the turbo's bearing retainer clip (spiral clip)

Ding ding ding, I think we have a winner. I'll go tear it down today and see. Thanks.

Edit: I don't think I have to. I found a pic of a rebuild kit and you are right. I wouldn't think that it would be rebuildable though with chunks of metal spinning around inside it.
