![]() i just changed the oil in my 95 when i was pouring the used oil into a jug. at the bottom of the drain pain i noticed some metal flakes. i know it wasnt in the pan before i did the change because the pan was clean. what could they be from? i have about 108k miles on KA.

Oh jeez.. I'm glad you clarified. I was going to ask if you'd run over Tony the Tiger.
Seriously: take pics of the flakes. how large are they? If they're like tiny gold flakes, don't worry, but otherwise, you're probably facing an oil starvation issue. |

every engine gives up some metal during oil changes. Every time I change my oil there is metal in it, not flakes but more like glittery little specs.
I wouldnt worry unless it starts coming off in chunks

metal flakes can be bad for your engine's health especially if it gets into the combustion chambers. the engien is just working hard and reving at upwards of 3-4K rpms and higher, pieces of metal from rods, the crank, pistons, etc. normally flake off.
a magnetic drain plug would be great for collecting all the metal shavings that come off your engine but as to who makes one for the 240 i dont know. check kragens, pep boys, etc.. they should probably have a cheapy one. |
