96 to 97/98 conversion

I just read the Technical section of the site that explains about converting the older S14's to the 97/98 style. My question is, are all those parts neccessary, or are there any parts that can be kept out of the install. Another thing is, I was wondering if there's anyone out there who might know the price difference between doing that conversion and the S15 conversion, and what parts were neccessary for that. I just got into an accident and I'm trying to decide whether to do an upgrade. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can run without a bumper reinforcement... but it's not as safe, and the bumper cover could droop.

Fender liners are also not completely necessary. I won't run on the street without them, though. I don't want to get debris/road grime/water/snow up into the chassis.

S15 nose = $$$$
