Ok Im pretty sure im gonna get flamed for this but in the maxima.org forum some guy said that he just got a hacksaw and cut off an inch or two on his existing shift stick and then he re applied his shift knob and it was a whole lot easier to shift and felt better. I was just wondering if anyone had heard of this or tried it.

yeah some people just cut the tops of the car to make convertibles..
some people cut springs to make em shorter..
some people cut shifters
some people cut up exhausts and intakes

i personally like to cut the spokes of my wheels to make em more light weight.. thats the secret

You could just get the B&M and then cut it short.. I like the look of a shorter shifter and with 35-45% less throw it should feel nice. And be farely easy to shift.

In fact that is a good idea I think I'll try that with a cheep obx 1st then do a B&M...

i've cut my stock shifter and it really doesn't reduce the throw. I then put in a B&M shifter and I can hoestly say that its the most fun upgrade I've done. Go for the B&M and enjoy!

ok here's my idea i have been thinking of getting the obx and taking it to a machine shop and having them hack off about an inch and a half, and then have the thick part of it lathed to the right width, and threaded for a shift knob, thus making the throw that much shorter and reducing the length the shifter itself, i hate the length of it, it feels as if i am driving a semi truck or something. let me know on what you guys think.

Well, Ive just gotten back from sawing off about an inch and a half and I like the look alot better, it has a sportier look, as for shorter throw, i havnt drove it yet but i dont think its that much differant. The stock knob wont fit since you cut off the threading so I have an aftermarket one that has allen screws to hold it on. All in all I like it alot and it was free so its a double score. On a side note, the shift knob i currently have is metal and it heats up so much i cant even touch it during the afternoon, i was thinking about putting something over it like a sock, any ideas?

As for covering I really don't think a sock would do it justice though it might save your hand. Perhaps you can keep your eyes open for a cheap plastic knob that you can fit and for the interim just toss some $7 sunscreens in your window?
