Over fender tire/wheel fitment...help?
I've read through the "Tire/Wheel Fitment" post at the top of this section, and while I got some ideas, I didn't really get many hard facts. It seems that every tire/wheel/fender combo is different. One thing I've learned is wheels first, then fenders.
I guess I'll start with what I want to achieve: Front: OriginLabs 40mm S13 fenders - Silvia [P]S13 Front Fender (40mm) Wilwood BBK - Wilwood Front Big Brake Kit for Nissan 240sx 5lug Stance coil-overs Ichiba 5-Lug Work TE37 -or- SSR Professor Rear: OriginLabs 50mm S13 fenders Silvia [P]S13 Type II Rear Fender (50mm) Z32 brake swap Stance coil-overs Ichiba 5-Lug Work TE37 -or- SSR Professor I don't want a lot of tire stretch or excessive camber. Something relatively streetable. I'm not looking to be spoon-fed "you need this size ----" What I want are some guidelines, just some sizes and ideas for get me close. I know I can do some fine-tuning with spacers. What are the specs on the OEM S13 rims? Maybe I can use oneof the "offset calculators" on Google (any recommendations?) to get started... thanks in advance for any help, I know it's kinda noob-ish, but I don't want to buy and re-buy parts because I got the wrong stuff.

Do you want 17"s? 18"s? 19"s? 24"s?
What is your definition of stretch? What is excessive camber to you? What is flush for you? These are all questions that YOU need to consider and not ask for opinions about. I'm not trying to be a dick but if you looked through the wheel/tire fitment thread, there's plenty of pictures listed with specs that you can base your "guideline" on. Everybody has their own opinion of stretched or flush or excessive camber... I could say that you can fit a 18x10 front and 18x12 rear with close to 0 offsets with fenders like that, then the next guy could come in and say you can only fit 18x9 18x11 max or something like that. So, just keep browsing through the numerous wheel/tire fitment threads and find a fitment you like. Then check the specs on the fenders/wheel-tire sizes, etc, etc... and go from there.

What I should have asked is how do I look at someone elses specs and figure out what I need to change to get the results I'm after. Example (specs for the above car): Front: Wheel: 17x9.5 +12 w/ 15mm spacer = 17x9.5 -3 Tire: 235/40 Fenders: 20mm Fronts Camber: -3.5 Rear: Wheel 18x9.5 +12 no spacer Tire: 235/40 Fender: 30mm Origin Fender pushed in. Camber: -2.2 if I wanted this fit, but in 18's, with 40mm (front) and 50mm (rear)....what measurements do I need to concern myself with? Hope that makes a little more sense...

this is what I get when I convert his sizes on a offset calc.
Front: Wheel: 18x10 -17 Tire: ???/?? Fenders: 40mm Fronts Camber: ?.? (this moves the position of the inner lip in 7.6mm, but moves the outer lip out 20.35mm.) Rear: Wheel: 18x11 +11 Tire: ???/?? Fenders: 50mm Rears Camber: ?.? (this moves the position of the inner lip in 18.1mm, but moves the outer lip out 20.05mm.) do these numbers sound feasible?

You just answered your own question.
You have a look you wanted, with pics and specs. You have 20mm difference in fenders. Add 20mm of offset or Add 1" of width= ~13mm of width inside, 13mm outside. Add 1.5" of width= ~19mm Don't forget about caliper clearance. Don't forget about coilover clearance. Then you have to figure out a tire size.... |

so you for sure are putting 40mm fenders. Measure the distance from where the wheel bolts up to (hub) and where you want the outside rim to be. That is half the size of your rim width if the offset was ZERO. Now it's just simple math to what wheels and the offset to figure our your spacers...let me know if that is too complicated...shouldn't be.

I guess i was really just looking for confirmation on my theory.
what specs do I need to look at for caliper clearance?

Normally, people just work with the parts they want or can afford and put them together as best they can to get the look they want...
Every part, even parts of the same company / brand, have variance, so you'll never be able to say "if i put 50 mm origin fenders with xx brand wheels of this size" it'll always look the same, it won't. It depends on how you install the fenders, on what brakes you have, on so many other factors that you just have to put it together and make adjustments as needed. Also, i disagree with you saying "start with fenders and then get wheels", i think you should start with the wheels you want and make the car fit them. That is if you want good fitment. If it helps, i run the following specs (not saying i have great fitment, just an example): front 18x9.5 5zigen fn01r-c hot version ET 12 235/40/18 tires (don't remember the exact brand, which also affects fitment) stock fenders with roll / small pull rear 18x10.5 Varstoen 2.2.1 ET 0 245/40/18 tires (again, don't remember what brand or model) 30mm Bings overs ![]() |
