autox w/ busted wheel stud
Would it be safe to autox with only 4 wheel studs on the front pass. side wheel? I busted one a few days ago and it hasn't come in yet at the dealer. The event is tomorrow. Thanks.

I'm not trying to drag this out, but I would pass tech, seriously. They don't even check that shit around here. Hell, they don't even make me take off my centercaps. Tech here is basically a wiggling of the MC and battery to make sure they aren't loose, then they kick the tires and put the sticker on your windshield.

the fact that you SHOULDN'T pass tech should warrant not autoxing unless you can get a stud (really... Pepboys and Autozone carry them. Napa should as well).

i drove with only 3 studs on my s13 for a few days. the morons at merchants only put 3 on... and i noticed a strange clunking sound at low speed, turns out it was sitting under the center cap, rolling around.

i drove around with one broken (center cap hid it) and then another one broke, and i definetly felt that, not to mention my rear right wheel looked as if it was turning to the right and i dont have hicas, it was horrible. this was in a nice slow street, i cant imagine busting one on a track, youd get ****ed up so bad...

In one of my Options video, a guy busted all five studs while drifting on a track. His rear wheel flew off while sliding sideways. He then slams into a wall of tires. Poor guy coudln't get out of his car, cause he busted his doors. haha. Crazy $hit!!! So yeah, i wouldn't auto-x with missing studs. Not worth the risk.

I used a hammer to hammer out the old stud (if applicable) and then i just pushed the new one in and screwed in a lug nut without the wheel until it settled in the right spot. Easy as that

i just did this a few days ago. go to napa or wherever and get a new stud. remove the brake caliper and rotor, then tap out the old one with a pin or something. if you don't have an impact gun you'll need to take off the hub to pound the new one in. after pounding it in, take some washers or an over sized nut and place it on there before the actual nut. then tighten down to make sure it's in place. put everything back together and Voila!
i drove for days on 3 studs(all were torqued BTW) and even went drifting and was fine. you should be ok to drive as long as the other 3 or 4(i have 4 lug) are all properly torqued down. |

FYI in my experience it's pretty easy to change out your front studs... but the rear studs will likely take some 'encouraging' to take out. I have Nismo 60mm studs up front, but couldn't get any of the rear studs out, so out back it's still stock. Heh heh. xp I should bring those rear hubs to a machine press whatever shop thing.
