Unique starting issues

Hey everyone I just bought a 89 240sx with a ka24de single cam. I drove it home and everything was fine until I tried to start it again. I cranked it and it would begin to start and then die. After about five trys I decided to wait about ten min and it started right up. Why did this happen? Any info would help. Thanks!

Was the car sitting for a while? Might be bad gas in the tank or the fuel pump like what coup-emonster said.
