super simple chain guide question
getting ready to remove the lower chain guide on my s14. just wanted to make sure. there are 3 chain guides from what i see in the factory service manual.
1. first guide (sits in front of the camshafts) 2. second guide (small triagulish piece) 3. third guide (a long thin rectangular piece, looks like it actually does something) when the archive says to remove the lower chain guide, i think its the 2nd guide misnomer is referring too. when he says DO NOT REMOVE THE LOWER GUIDES, hes referring to the 3rd guide, right? just want to make 100% sure. thanks. ![]() |

Yes.
1st guide is between the camshafts, second guide is on the right hand side below the timing cover, still on the upper chain. It's been a while since I did that work on my car, so I don't recall everything. There are two chains, don't remove any guides from the lower chain, iirc those are required. The upper chain as I recall has the upper guide between the camshafts, the lower guide on the right hand side, and the tensioner on the left.
