Need SR downpipe- Suggestions?

1. I need a new 3" downpipe for an s13 sr going into and s14. What do you suggest? How are the megan ones with flex pipe? Anything else I should look at? I'm not afraid to spend decent money if REQUIRED but I also do not believe in buying just for a brand name.

2. Do all 3" downpipes reduce to 2.75 inches at the turbo side? Is this normal?

Thanks

I have one for sale that came off my S15 SR. It never sold when I parted it all out. It's a Blitz and has very good ground clearance... $100.

^^^ thats a smoking deal! id jump on that if i were u. my experience has been that if u dont spend the money on good parts now, u will have to at some point. i had a cheap downpipe on mine then upgraded to tomei turbo elbow and the crappy downpipe hit frame rail and made a bunch of noise. picked up a rs*r downpipe and not only was it bigger than the cheapy it was routed better and didnt hit frame at all. most of them do bottle neck right after the turbo. i think its for access to the three bolts but i dont know. i ve always heard megans exhaust parts have trouble sealing but that might be due to the gaskets they supply.

The only downpipes I know of that don't have the 2.75 entry at the turbo are the elbow-dp, two in one setups. Don't know if you can really call that a dp. $100 for a blitz dp is a good deal considering all name brand dp cost alot more. That said, I'd like a flex in mine.

to be honest i dont think downpipes have a big difference between brands. they are all 3 inch for turbo at least from what i know. i mean i have a circuit sport dp which is the only part of my car that i went cheap on and have no problems. has great ground clearance and looks like any other dp. i rode in my friends 240 and he had a greddy dp and both sounded the same.

The only difference in dp is clearance. That and some of the cheap ones like the no-name ebay ones, for example, use cheaper thin metal and thinner flanges. As far as sound goes, I think that's determined by the muffler and resonator if equiped. There isn't much to research into when buying a dp. It's all been tried and done, search the topic. Megan would be fine if you're looking at that, it does have a flex as you say, which I personally like. Or the above Blitz, they make great products and he's selling it cheapo.

Any 3" sr downpipe will work.

The standard down-pipe with the flex location at the bottom is alright if your car isn't horribly low.

A vast majority of down-pipes have a slightly narrow neck, but it isn't anything to worry about.

Right now my car has an XS Engineering down-pipe which gets rid of the cat and mounts directly to the catback.

Ground clearance is pretty good, and it gets rid of a flange, so one less thing to catch on the ground/leak.

If your car is super low, dont get a flexpipe, eventually from scraping it will create a hole and you will have a major exhaust leak,

like everyone says go with the Blitz from broadfield cant beat the price,
i personally bought an HKS and the quality for being HKS really sucked.

Powered by Max Cobra 100% If you don't buy the Blitz from Toby.

I have one and it is awesome, the vertical flex is the only way to do it. The horizontal flex is pointless and decreases ground clearance tremendously IMO.

Are you guys sure about that? I have the Blitz and clearance SUCKS. It dips down for about a foot and a half then dips up an inch. This causes my car too scrape really bad. I don't know what the hell Blitz was thinking when they designed it. I would suggest the PBM cobra when they get more in stock or if you don't wanna spend extra get an RS-R or Espelir downpipe. They tuck pretty nicely. I just bought an RS-R.

I have an HKS 3" downpipe. I'd say quality is pretty damn good. Not sure how other dp's compare in respect to the frame rail but mine is about 1/2 inch lower than the frame rail itself at its lowest point.

Wouldn't downpipe clearance also depend on the elbow positioning and how high up the bracket to the gearbox is?

Someone mentioned the Isis combo had good ground clearance, but I really want the PBM with flex.

if You could afford to make oval equivalent of 4" tube custom downpipe or all the way to the muffler exhaust (the bigger the better) it'll be the best you can have I think.

Get something with a flex on it to relieve some stress as well as vibrations. I hear ppl have problems with their turbos getting loose cuz they dont have the flex pipe. I bought a megan but it alread3 has a huge leak from scraping.
