Angry I dont understand....

[rant]
I dont understand what the big deal with the whole Janet Jackson thing is. There have been a couple of posts conserning it on here and I have been looking at different online news pages and pretty much everyone is upset about it. What the hell? Did people not see what was going on before and after the half-time show? It seems that watching the superbowl, the images of people beating the shit of our of each other, is okay (hell, is family entertainment) but show a partial boob on tv and shit hits the fan. This is exactly what is wrong with our society. We can get drunk and cheer for a bunch of overpaid men trying to kill each other over a oval, inflated piece of skin but showing the body that God gave us is a no-no. What the hell?
[/rant]
Just thought I would throw this out there and try to get other peoples opinions on this.

ps. before anyone one says I am anit-jock/sports/meathead, let me say that I played varsity football all 4 years in highschool and played 2 years of college baseball so I like sports, I just undertand that they are not the most important thing out there

...i agree %100 about the american society being FAR too uptight regarding sexuality...

all stems from the religious foundations of this county...

if i see one more suburban with a whole family (2 large and several small) jesus fish on the back i will cry...

look at europe, perfectly open with sexuality, and nothing insane is happening there, their cops dont even carry guns! (england at least)

us US people need to just loosen up about that kind of stuff.

Yeah, i agree nokeone, it has alot to do with our religious foundations. I mean our fore fathers were the Puritans, people so up tight the British even told them to get the fuck out. How bad is that? You would think that thinks would have changed for the better in a over 300 years of "progress" but I guess not.

Plus I am sure there were a ton of Superbowl Commercials that were just as sexually inspired or revealing as half a boob. I didn't watch the bowl so I don't know about the commercials, but seriously there are TV shows with much more Risque material. I think the world is against that Jacksons it's a conspiracy haha.

yeah i agree with burnmonster and nokeone as well. its the religious foundations of this country. only thing is during these past 2 hundred some odd years "progress" hasnt included religious freedoms (in leadership..ie. presidency) not to mention racial, sexual etc. damn good ol' boys club. we need a lesbian, black, jewish, woman who represents the 3rd party to be president and throw this country into a new direction. hope nobody was offended by that...lol. but you get what im saying....we need something new, not always white, rich, protestant, males.

hmmm... i don't know. personally i wouldn't my 13 year old daughter running around flashing her boob and having sex with lots of guys b/c the USA is a sexually 'liberated' country. u gotta draw the line somewhere. i mean its cool when ur mature and shit so you don't feel the need to emulate all the bs u see around you, but somewhere some stupid teenybopper has gotten the idea that its cool to put a little sticker on her nipple and flash her boob at ppl. remember that janet and britney are (unfortuanetly) role models for young people. i hate pop culture.

Quit using common sense :P

You need to draw the line somewhere and flashing your right tit to the largest possible audience on TV is crossing it IMHO.
It's to bad that the media is giving it the exposure that they obviously wanted.

i agree that the act in and of itself was uncalled for...however, the reasoning behind it and the statement it makes, i think, is completely valid...and furthermore would be unnecessary if this society would losen up...this type of stuff wouldn't happen..there would be no shock value to associate with it and it would cease to be an issue...

It's kinda funny that you mention other places are more sexually liberated. You have to remember that our country is also still pretty young as far as countries go. Plus people here have the freedom to do what they want but other people have the freedom to do something(such as watch tv) and not put up with other peoples actions. I really do think that the US is very uptight about the human body. If you look at some countries in the middle east (I forget the exact one) they have built temples and instead of having scary looking gargoyles they have ppl having sex in all sorts of various positions! And these were built before we were even a country! We just have a long way to go and it might be hard to get there becuase everyone is afraid that kids are too stupid to realize that things are wrong. They may start to do something but "where are the parents?" Right?

Damn, I'm getting tired. I wonder if any of that was even clear.lol

No, she didn't break that barrier, Michael did... Notice how this big assed kiddie fondling scandal came about a WEEK before the release of his #1's CD/DVD release. I hate that it has taken legal bullshit to get it that way, but his name was in the mouths and consciousness of so many American people (read: consumers) and would be more likely to remain there as they embark on their endeavors into the circuit city and best buys of the world, where they will casually notice "Hey, some new MJ shit" if they weren't already aware of it. The album and DVD sell like hotcakes, he makes SEVERAL millions off of it, then settles with the kid's mom out of court for a couple million, small change in comparison, still enough for them to live the rest of their lives comfortably...

And back to the task at hand. I think that it was a bit much for Janet to pop a boob on TV, especially seeing as how I'd seen them before, it was nothin new to me. On the other hand, a sporting event (albeit the most violent one we watch weekly) is no place to test the sensitivity levels of our coutry's sexuality comfort zone... Accident or no, I personally think it was over the edge and agree with the individuals who have daughters and realize the detriment that this will do to them as Janet being a role model to these young girls. I think the attention it is getting is right on par with the Britney/Madonna kiss in comparison. "In comparison," I say, because a lesbian kiss isn't near as risque as flashing somthing that is KNOWN to be wrong in the eyes of the censors, so naturally, it would get more of ma reaction. What's next? The maybe someone will get blown on stage at the Grammys on Sunday.

why does everyone refer to it as the Britney/Madonna kiss? I mean Christina got the first kiss... but somehow is ALWAYS left out of the whole incident....

sorry random observation.

task at hand. I agree I dont see the big deal about it. I think the dude streaking was more of an incident than janets boob. but no one downloads pics and video of some random guy streaking across the field and getting arrested. but pull Janet Jacksons boob out and the Media goes NUTS. pics are on the internet before the game is over analysis has begun on why how it happened. Lil Kim walked out in a Pasty, J.lo's dress from the grammy's the other year? how many times will the media HYPE up a celebrity semi revealing attire?

random observation: Madonna kissed Britney, then kissed Christina.

You can't blame this incident on Janet Jackson.....IT WAS JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE that revealed the bobby....so now little boys will think its ok to rip some girl shirt.

I can understand an accident but this whole thing was staged from the beginning, and that is wrong. Wether we like it or not there are laws about what and when certain things can be shown on television. It also takes away from the real star of the day, a damn good superbowl game.

fix your damn sig already...the gross idiocy of it makes me feel sorry for you every time i have the displeasure of reading it...

aww shucks...did the superbowl get upstaged for a moment?...boohoo..

you're missing the entire debate...you're looking at simply the surface issues without thinking about the underlying values in this country which are what cause the reactions in the first place...i just don't see how it was THAT big of a deal...it was simply out of place and in an unexepected context...this is what scared and angered people...

The way I see it, people are going to be pissed off no matter whats shown on tv. There is such an uptight demographic of people in american, they cant be made happy. Thats fine. They arent the one come up complaining about the material of that "MTV" because they dont watch it. They dont agree with the material being shown and therefore dont watch it, avoiding what they dont like all together. This makes sense. What gets me is that the people who are up in arms about this certain incident werent watching the super bowl to see some sort of christian lecture series, they were watching it so see people beat the shit out of each other. One second, people are hitting each other, bleeding, cursing at one other (and these words are often caught accidentally over field mics and hear on the air) and everthing is fine; hell bring the kids in they might like it. But, oh wait, the next second, a boob gets partially exposed for about 2 seconds and everyone utters a "Oh shit, put the kids to bed and get the number of my lawyer, we are sueing CBS." Where were these people when the Panthers coach as clearly seeing mouthing the word FU*K on more then one occation. Is that less insluting to the American viewing public? Living in the Bible Belt, I see hypocricy like this almost everyday and frankly I am tired of it. I am not saying that tomorrow that there should be naked women on everychannel (be it cabel or network) but I just think people need to get off their high horse and come down to reality. And if your kids are starting to imitate the images and personaities they see on tv, is that their fault our yours as a parent? You want the best for you child, teach it to them yourself dont let the tv do it. If they get out of line, step in and set um right (even if that involve a spanking or a quick backhand). Hell, I am glad my parents did, I am better off because of it today and can relieze what is right and wrong for myself and not let some electronic box do it for me.

Moral of the story here: Accept what we natural have, hell celebrate it TASTEFULLY. While it was wrong for either Janet or Justin to set this up with out prior knowledge of CBS, mistakes happen. Build a bridge and get over it. A boob is a boob after all, we all saw them when we were little babies, didnt seem to effect us too bad then, but I guess an older American public cant deal with it.

I think I am going to move to Amsterdam.

Update: I heard today that they are going to be running a longer tape editing time at the Grammys to keep "offensive" material and language to keep from being show on the air in response to the whole super bowl crap. This is exactly what I was afraid was going to start to happen. Janet also cancel her apperence at the Grammys and (this is by far the worst) one of Justin's band members (ex N'Sync-er i guess) who was supposed to play at the probowl was told he could not play and was replaced my traditional Hawaiian dancers and musicans. How the hell is he involved and why is he being punished.

Rampant unprovoked censorship here we come.

"rampant unprovoked censorship"

"big brother"

Sound like you guys are the ones overreacting, its just the networks making sure they won't be the next in line for million dollar plus fines, fines that have been in place for years.

I really dont think I am over reacting, simply oberserving. Plus my comment was more directed toward the situation of the guy who was not allowed to sing/play at the probowl. What did he do? Just because he knows the guy he should be punished? Situations like this give people more of a reason to start censoring show/music because the people are more willing to accept it. If this whole mess with Janet hadnt gone down, do you think they would be censoring the Grammys more or would we even cared or noticed? I am not sure. I just seems ridiculus to me for them to be censoring certain things because people have their heads shoved so far up their ass they can see whats going on in the world around them over an incident which should have simply been passed off as a mistake and forgotten about within minutes.

For example: When the impeachment hearings for Clinton happened a few years ago, I hear more referance to oral sex and other sexual acts than I have ever heard on a cable or network show before. Was this censored in the least? No. Was CSPAN, NBC, ABC, CBS or any other network sued for covering it? No. Did the leader of the free world, standing on a raised podium, describe the sexual acts that transpired between him and Monica in front of an audience of millions? YES.

It doesnt make sense to me for people to censor and be upset over an accident. Like I said before, build a bridge and get over it. Dont go around censoring things just because something like this happens and it becomes your crusade to "clean up" television. Thats bullshit.

They are not censoring anything differently, the network is obviously afraid to have another incident so they are giving themselves an extra couple seconds seconds of relay during the grammy broadcast, the grammy's have always had atleast a 5 second delay for censorship. They aren't censoring anything differently, they just don't want another artist (like JC Chavez during the pro bowl) to try and one up the last event on their network. True the chances of him doing anything are nil, but it sends a message and it means nothing to the network and saves them the stress over worrying if he will do anything. If anything you should be thanking them, its oneless n'sync member on TV!!
Yes it should be forgotten but the news likes to cover this cause they know its what people will be talking about the next day and it keeps people reading their news site/channel/paper, if you think free speech is being taken away because Janet flashed a boob your way off

EDIT: That was also no accident, she knew full well she would be exposing herself on live network TV.
