DIY Carpet replacement
Ive seen a hundred threads on "Where do I get new carpet" etc etc, and it all sums up to people saying
DO NOT buy your own fabric and do it yourself GO BUY the pre molded stuff. Well, I did it myself, total cost of everything was $47.89, and I couldnt be happier. I know theres other people that have done the same. I have a few cell phone pics, It was getting dark when I was finishing up, so more pics will come tomorrow! Please dont bash on the battery box location, It is being moved to the trunk once my wiring comes in, didnt have any on hand! All you need to do is go to your local Home Depot, Lowes, etc and buy the thinnest outdoor/deck carpeting they have. Some elbow grease and measurements, patience, and some upholstery glue! Tore all the interior out, bought the vehicle without carpet, plastics etc. Before cleaning out all the grime, and respraying: ![]() ![]() In the process of fitting \/ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by sloganish; 05-27-2012 at 03:18 PM.. |

^^ I agree with him, not saying it doesn't look good, its just you can't see any of the work you did to fit it. Its all hidden by seat, center console etc. Can you take pics of what it looks like without all the stuff in? Kinda curious.

Yeah, I didnt really take process pictures, i was more concerned with getting it all done before i lost light! Ill get more pictures tomorrow.
I purchased a 8'x12' section of the carpet. I Measured distance from front point of car, to the lip of the rear seat, want to say around 62 inches, then the width of each driver and passenger side (around 32-34 inches a piece), omitting the area of the center counsel. where the carpet bunched up do to tight corners, I simply cut straight down, folded it over itself and did my best to create good seams.most of the seams are hidden by the seats, and the front area where your feet rest! ***And dont forget to cut slits for the seats mounting points! |

Hey guys, was redoing most of the engine bay harness today, completely slipped my mind to snap some pics. I also did the trunk area, noise levels inside the car are SOOOO much better now!! Ill get pics tomorrow for everyone.
I used the spray adhesive they sell at Advanced Auto, not sure on brand. **NOTE there are areas where the carpet will bunch up, i made sure these areas where hidden by the seats/kick panels. Take your time and itll look great and far cheaper than the $150+ Oem replacement, or the used crap at the junkyard! |

Well all my sound deadening was already removed, so the glue left over i used Simple green, a brillo pad, and a TON of elbow grease! then I used rubberized undercoating to re seal the floor. Let it rest for a day and fully dry.

I always seem to have a socket wrench in my passenger seat.
EDIT: If I were going to replace my carpet, I'd opt for some premolded with better color, but this should be great for people on a limited budget. Especially if they strip their interior and then decide it was a mistake. |

Thanks for the info....
I ended up buying a premolded carpet in Black and will be installing it in the next few weeks hopefully. Yes it was expensive (approx $165 shipped) but I was able to haggle for the higher quality carpet and the upgrade that included a very thick backing to reduce noise transfer. I felt bad cheaping out on the carpet especially since I purchased almost everything brand new for the interior and bought Dmax rugs to compliment. I will check out the Advanced Auto adhesive....thanx again. |

I know I usually buy most parts with patience but this time I said I would splurge a little. The carpet I bought is 1000x nicer than OEM but then again it comes at a cost. Its also very difficult to find good quality parts in the Tri-State area without someone charging you a grip for parts. Im glad I chose the premolded especially because the rest of the interior is mint now due to all new parts for the most part. The carpet is so nice I would actually install it in my house if I could lol.

Holy Shizzness looks like the price went up even higher since I ordered mine. I would call them if your going to purchase because I got better pricing just by talking to the sales rep.

Agreed this is a great solution for DIY-ers and guys on a budget. I am usually on a budget but this time I splurged. Def going to do this to my trunk since I destroyed all of the lining back there.

Do you guys know anything about re-upholstering the headliner? Floor looks mint by the way. Mine is shot to shit from the previous owner who seemed like a heavy smoker (of both types)
