WTF is wrong with my car (95 with s13 blacktop)

hey guys, so im still trying to get my sr to run...ill charge up the battery, start the car, then watch the voltage drop like panties at the prom! i just tried replacing the alternator, but its still not holding power (im not sure if the new one is good, but im gonna have the original tested tomorrow and maybe rebuilt)...other than the alternator what could cause this rediculous drop in voltage

ps i have a miata battery but im pretty sure this isnt the problem

Also, what does the bigger plug that runs along the side of the passenger side door go to? There are two plugs that come up from over there, i found where one goes but not the other one? (ill get a picture of the plug tomorrow when the suns out)

I can start the car, it just doesn't stay on...once running shouldn't the alternator be taking the load

yea it should but if alt is bad ill take its juice from the battery till it dies. ground on the alt goes to chassis and the + goes to the + battery wire which is part of the chassis harness, trace the ground and the + wire coming from the alt.

The lower harness consists of wires for trans/starter/alt.
And yes the ground should be going into the lower harness. Then from there to the passenger strut towers. I would remove ur lower harness and make sure everything is OK and inspect each wire. Yea it takes time and then tape them back up and make it look pretty. Its common issue I seen with the lower harness shorting out and causing issues one like wat ur having.. good luck I would also do the ground wire kit. Ground ur starter/alt/block. I notices faster start ups, less power drain( ac kick in and lights don't dim) ,
