While having my car up on the lift i was inspection for some noise coming from the rear end when i was starting the car from a stand still, a sort of clunking. I found what would seem to be excessive play in the diferential. The drive shaft input into the carrier can rotate maybe 5-10 degrees before it engages. Im sure that this is causing the noise. What do i need to tighten or what could have worn?

why do you assume the free play is in the diff? this usually doesnt happen. more than likely it's in the driveshaft itself.

because i rotated the companion flange and the play was in the diff......

ahh. well in this case you are probably gonna spend more for repairs than it would cost to get a new diff. Good luck.
