Question 92 240 Fb Se

I found a 92 fastback SE in my area for sale, the only reason i havent bought it yet is becuase im hesitant because the KA motor has 199k on it. Thats a helluva alot of miles. I've looked the car over somewhat as best i could. No major flaws Interior/Exterior for a 92. Im wondering what to lookout for (potential problems) on a car this old and with as many miles as it has.

My 92 has 211,000 miles and it runs decent, in serious need of a clutch tho. But make sure you check all your fuel lines because on mine one of them was like deteriorting(sp) so then i replaced them.

How much are they asking? 199k is a helluva lot of miles. . . Then again, my DOHC KA is still kicking ass at 170k. . . I have every confidence I'll break 200k without major problems.

He is probably talking about one of the rubber fuel lines. . . a couple bucks to replace- no big deal. I don't expect one of the hardlines was going bad.

DUDE! definitely don't give $3k

If you are really desperate no more than $2k, u'll find more if he wont sell it to you for $1500

yeah i wouldnt pay 3k, not worth the problems, i was thinking like 2k at the most. Thing is it was a CASH only car. Makes me think there is something F'd up and they are trying to get rid of it.

^^ yeah there's somethin wrong with it....it has 200,000 miles on it...lol...i've never purchased a used car with anything but cash...or a money order..which is essentially the same thing...being a cash only transaction would not scare me away...personally..

that car could have a million things wrong with it. We can't tell you over the internet. But if you want a list of possibilities to look for....

rust
fucked up timing chain
blown shocks
leaking tranny
leaking engine
leaking power steering
torn tie rod boots
bent frame
busted axle boots
warped rotors
corroded spark plugs
water leaking into trunk
blown speakers
cum stain on seats
cracked glass
excessive bondo from previous repairs
...I can keep going...
just get a mechanic to go with you

i had my uncle who is a mechnic come with me. if u can't get a mechanic to go with u then ask if u would be able to take it to a garage. if they don't let u then that's a good sign that thers sumthing they don't want u to know about the car. as for the rest of the car, just look out for rust on the frame, under body (especially driver side), wheel wells, area just below the front windshield, and strut towers. also, don't forget to check the small stuff like a/c, heater, power windows and locks, and the gas door/ trunk release latch. you could also look out for choppy body work that was done before they put it on sale. check the fender liners/ wells and tires to look for excess paint mist from recent spraying.
