All issues I've.dealt with like that have always been either the iacv or tps.
A sticky cable usually will cause a.high steady idle. Not a bouncy one. The cable would have to be pulling itself back and forth in order for the idle to bounce. |

I'm not saying you guy's are stupid, just that you haven't seen everything and you answer reflect that.
What I think it is, The coolant temp senor, and it's detecting an over heat situation. What usually happens is, first high temps, with visual and audible alerts, the audible alert is usually the revving of the engine, visual temp or the rpm gauge up and down in a rhythmic motion.(i know sounds stupid) If the throttle cable was stuck why would it go up and down, it would be a straight rev to whatever. Check codes, check for coolant leaks, if none pressure test the coolant system, there are some so repair! Edit this morning, 3 240 all with sr's two s13 one s14. the symptom up and down idle rpm 900 to 2000. I still believe this to be coolant temp related. My only answer is global warming j/k

make sure your throttle plate screws are still in place.
they like to back out. last time at the track, i was finishing a run and all of a sudden my rpms pegged. redline. instantly i killed the ignition, coasted off to the side and started the car again, as soon as it fired up, bam, redline. instantly i kill the ignition again and we push the car into the pits. pull some piping apart and find that the in the throttle body, where one of the two screws holds the actual throttle plate to the pin that it rotates on, has cracked and the screw is just sitting there inside my throttle body. Fuuuuuuuuuuu that could have been REALLY bad if it had been sucked in. We ended up welding it, and it's been fine even since, but a large vacuum leak like that will cause your revs to climb excessively. |

That is the exact same thing that my car was doing.THE RPM just started to clime very quickly I freaked me and had me wondering what the #$#w was going on.I pulled over , shut off my car, turned it back on it just climed as soon as I turned it back on.I wasn't very far from my house I decided to drive it home in 4 gear where the RPM was ad a steady 3K. Like I said the issue is resolved now, I'm still unsure what caused it since I cleaned both the IACV and the throttle plate/body with a shit load of carb cleaner. I did noticed that the Plate was slightly stuck but not too much I'm not sure if it was opened wide enough for the RPM to just shoot up like that. |
