i have an 89 hatch with xxr 006 17x8 +25 off set. with 225/45/17 tires, the front would rub if i get too crazy on the turns, the rears can handle 9 inches with +35 no problem. i`m actually thinking of buying 2 006 17x9 +20 off set for the rears. i think 8 inches with +35 off set in the front would be perfect. i have tokico springs and blue shocks with one coil cut all around, about 1.5 inch gap between top of tires and bottom lip of rear fenders.

17x9 +35 wont clear the coilovers in the front. you need +20 minimum for approx. 5mm clearance
