s13 bad fuel pump????????????

I need to know what's wrong with my KA. Recently I've been getting sputter midway though the RPM band in any given gear at 75% throttle. I just got home from work and I noticed the motor was iding rather rough and when I would give it gas it sputter alot. Also, I have smoke comming from the exhaust and it smells like fuel. I don't know how bad the smoke is b/c it had just finished raining out and the air was a bit cool plus it's night time. I've never had this problem before so can you guys help me out, thanks.

Look at it in the sunlight to make sure, blue smoke looks like white smoke with just a hint of blue, It can get tricky to tell sometimes.

You could prob clean/change your plugs for a temp fix.. It sounds like your running rich and the white smoke you saw is prob due to the cool weather.

Shame on you, you need to perform some basic maintenance! Start with the cheap stuff that most people forget about changing. FUEL FILTER, and run 91 octane gas for a full tank and get some Lucas fuel additive to clean out your injectors and fuel delivery system. Trust me don't go cheap and get some knock off brand, GET LUCAS!!

Lucas is the best and it's not that much more than GUNK and that other crap. I get mine at Napa and Kragen for sure and it runs about 3.99 for a bottle. You just add it to a full tank and it'll do the rest.

Drive it on that tank and see if it doesn't improve you performance and driveability. Then get back to us. DO IT.....!!!

I got the car a year ago. I always do the maintenace on all my cars. I change the oil regularly with moble 1 and I put STP injector cleaner every time. I just changed the plugs and wires a couple of weeks ago and gapped the plugs according to what i was told on this forum. I've changed the O2 sensor a month ago. Up till now the only things that have gone bad are the battery and starter. I drive the car hard but never up to redline b/c it has 140k on the clock. I'll try replacing the fuel filter and get back to you guys. Thanks for all the help.

P.S.
I also for got to mention that when I let of the trottle the exhaust pops like a back fire but not as loud.

that injecter cleaner doent do shit!!!! do not waist ur money on itit actualy hurts ur engine in the long run

plus ur suposed to use premium anyway in the 240

If you have white smoke coming out and it smells like fuel your definitely running way rich. This can be caused by a few different things. If you dont have spark in one cylinder the fuel will not ignite. What happened to my KA one time was the o-ring on the injector busted from using fuel injector cleaner, I had white smoke pouring out along with some fuel. Most injector cleaner bottles say on back not to use on nissans (because they have injector issues). Most additives are bad I dont care what anyone says Lucas does make good stuff for tranny's so I dont know about that though. What you do is start the car and 1 at a time pull off a spark plug wire when you pull one out and there is no change in the way the motors running thats your dead cylinder. Check to make sure that spark plug wire is firing by pulling out and set the tip up against the valve cover, if you see it spark its o.k.. Next cut the motor and pull that spark plug out see if its in alright shape by checking the tip where the little prong is if its not corroded or anything but soaked then the o-ring for that injector is probably busted or it stopped working all together.

Yeah that cheap STP crap in EVERY fuel fill up will definitely cause some problems. Basically fuel cleaner is like 409 for our fuel system. Well what happens when you spray 409 on a painted surface and leave it? It'll eat away at the paint overtime. Same scenario with fuel cleaner. And everyone I've ever asked about fuel additives say that you should only use them about twice a year. Anymore than that and you're asking for trouble.

Oh and one more thing, what do you think the stuff is that comes in gas now? 76' Pro Power, Chevron Techron, etc. Those are all a very diluted form of injecter/fuel system cleaners. You get very small amounts of those additives in every fuel fill up, but IMO not enough to do anything.
