Clutch with a ton of freeplay

So my clutch feels like poop and there is a ton of freeplay. You can push the pedal with no effort/resistance before anything happens with the clutch. The clutch pedal doesn't engage until you are slightly off the floor. What's the problem? clutch? master/slave cylinder? or does it just need to be adjusted? BTW there are 153k miles on my car and i have reason to believe it is the original clutch. The clutch doesn't slip though.

Sorry for being a noob, I might get flammed.

1. You could have a leak
2. Slave cylinder could be going out
3. The rod connected to the clutch pedal needs to be adjusted
or
4. The tiny metal bracket that connects the adjustment rod to the clutch pedal is probably bent.
