KA s13 DE vs. s14 DE

what are the difference between the de in the s13 and the s14 (beside emission controls obd1 vs. obd2) What mechanically seperates the two motors. For instance, I have heard of people swapping in s13 de cams into the s14 de motor. Why are the cams swapped....is there a difference in lobe, ramp, general profile? I am learning all that I can about the K series motors.

"Ever since I was eight, I have wanted to own the sleek Nissan 240sx. Ten and a half years later, I am finally fortunate enough to own one of these fine vehicles." This past year has been the first in which I have been able to gain experience building these motors. Just finished a complete teardown and rebuild of my single slammer. I am in the process of designing parts for the car, so camshaft specs would help. Thanx
89' 240sx: SOHC w/ported head, intake mani, collector. Custom front mount intake, and turbo mani in the works. Soon to be 5spd. w/ka24de motor later on.

Valve covers, more agressive cams (91-early 93), intake manifold lower bracket, swirl control valves in intake mani (91-early 93)

I think that's about it.

the intake cam on the 91-93 dohc motor has a lift of 247 while the s14s have a lift of 23* or something. but to compensate for that, they have a differnt intake manifold. so both have same hp.

not dyno'd and i did a bunch of other stuff to it too, my car sounds differnt than my friends when i rev though, mine revs alot faster (pulley and flywheel effect this too), there is also a diffent tone and like a change over in his. but cahngeing just the upper intake with the runners is easy and its identical to the s13 just minus the butterfly valves. hardest part is figureing what to do with all the vaccum shit and hoses attached.

^^^ I junked most of my vacuum whenever I swapped my upper intake manifold with S14's.
seriously, All you need to remember is that FPR needs to have a vacuum line attached to it, and ofcourse AIV too.
Before turbo, I noticed a little bit of gain in the upper RPM (above 4500-5000rpm), but is just according to my butt dyno.
I went with s14 upper intake manifold because I was thinking about turbo. and the s14 upper intake manifold (which doesnt have secondary butterflies) will flow better especially with pressurized air (according to fluid mechanic class I was taking last fall).
Its an easy install, especially when the KA is out of the car. Do this (S13 owners) whenever you have the chance to swap your old KA with a newer mielage KA.

Ryan Hagen: I sent you a PM.
