oil catch can question..
I was wondering if catch cans should be absolutely air tight?
I ask because i bought a mishimoto catch can and when it arrived the clear oil level part of it was broken at the nut that it is attached to, which screws into the can itself.. Rather than send it back, i just unscrewed the oil level and wrapped some bolts i had with teflon tape and screwed them into the holes to block them off. After doing so, i covered one of the holes (in/out holes) on the catch can and blew in through the other to see if it was air tight, but it leaks very little from one of the screws that i screwed in as a block off. Granted it is not a fast leak, its still not air tight. Will this cause issues? |

The answer depends how you plan to install it.
assuming one port will go to the valve cover, where does the other go? if it vents to the atmosphere with a rinky dink little filter on it, no the leaks do not matter. if it is connected to your intake, after the maf then yes in theory it can effect things. of course depending how much air actually travels through. id try and teflon that again, you should be able to make an air tight seal with that pretty easy. |

Rather than rigging it, why not just send the damn thing back?

Mine was leaking around the fittings where the hoses attached, a little sealant and now everything is nice and leak-free. Didn't notice a huge difference in the engine but it certainly didn't hurt to fix it.
