you paid almost $10000 for a car that's 16 years old.

let alone it's a nissan.

sink that in for a little bit.

$7k will get you a lot of nicer/newer cars out there.

What do you consider "nicer" ?

Find me a car like a 240sx, one that:
1. appreciates in value
2. lightweight
3. RWD
4. easy to maintain
5. reliable for 200,000+ miles with oem everything
6. easy to find parts for
7. parts are cheap
8. easy to work on (above and beyond maintenance)
9. parts replacement/failure is forecast (we know what will fail in the future i.e. front main, tensioner, TC-rods, door panels, etc... )
10. has a high quality JDM counterpart drivetrain that bolts right in with no custom parts
11. appreciates in value

You find me another "nicer" car that hits at least eight of these points in the same $10,000 price bracket

Dear thread op:
Drive your car for as long as you want, just change the oil. She will treat you right. And when you are done, after you put 50,000 miles+ on her, sell for what you paid or more.

not sure what area of the US you are in, but a 240sx most definitely does not appreciate in value... at all

I've seen several in the 6-8k recently, either they are higher in mileage or rebuilt titled. Granted I'm not looking for them, but just what I have come across locally.

Most of them the R-titled ones are one that had their tops cut for seats.

Couldn't pay me to own a honda in this city.

For those who said they will appreciate in Value, I highly doubt it. Once the S2K (sooner than later) and the twins (FRS/BRZ) drop to what the a stock S14 kouki is fetching now, the price of the 240sx will surely plummit. And that won't be too long from now since not only will those US bred versions be attainable, but when that 25 year law expires, no one is going to want a stock 240sx............

Below is a VERY VERY NICE STOCK AP1 S2000 with 120K Miles, AP2 wheels and all the receipts for all of $8200 slightly negotiable. And there are alot more in my neck of the woods from 7500 all the way up to 15-16K. However as mentioned above, the reason most S2000 have R-Titles, is not because some dorifto wrecked it, but because of how often they get stolen unfortunately.

$8200 S2000

s2k's also get wrecked a lot in the rain.

something with the owners having crap tires.... i was driving back from a drift event in the rain and had one do a 720* spin in front of me. nearly smashed my front end.

but yeah. plenty of $10k S2k's out there.

That is 100% attributed to driver error. Regardless of conditions, unless on full slicks, drivers should not place themselves in a position to where a spin on a non race track is inevitable. The stock (Bridgestones??) are more than capable to handle most conditions.

I didn't see it. Frick that one is even cheaper and a bit nicer too. In my area the cheapest I've seen is $12.5 for a pretty busted one. Is the AP1 or the AP2 the one to avoid?

The AP1 is the earlier version and has a bit smaller displacement (2.0 vs 2.2 of the AP2). As small as that sounds, the drivability is much improved and you do not have a stratospheric redline to boot. There is a host of other differences (different cosmetics, wider wheels, etc), but that is one of the major differences.

The AP2 is ofcourse newer (and ofcourse more $$$) and the more desirable one, but depending on what you want to do, either will work.

So the one you linked is actually a pretty excellent deal for being an AP2. I just don't like the electric steering racks in these.

Not to be a dick, but that's just nit picking. Every car has a flaw

What do you not like about the rack? Because other than doriftos, everyone I know who has one (3 HPDE cars, 2 street cars and 1 fully prepped SCCA IT spec track car) LOVE the steering rack on those!

LOL nothing dickish about that. From my limited experience of driving two (I don't even remember what years they were) I just don't like the steering. I can't even describe it really. It's like those cars that have the electronic assist under a certain MPH then once you pass it the rack becomes tighter. It's just weird. Not anything that would make me not buy the car, I would just do an RX7 rack or something.

HPDE and SCCA guys are massive nerds and like strange thing though.

The last HPDE I did I ran into an oooold family friend and he took me out for a few laps. I was super impressed with stock suspension and engine. Just slicks, NSX rotors, Accord calipers, and race pads it made my neck sore.

Brother's car: 98 SE, Auto, sunroof, 70k original miles, black, 100% uncrashed & unmolested. Cost a whopping $4500. Car has rock chips on front bumper and looks like it has never been on a jack. This was a good deal.

My turd: 98 SE, hardtop, auto, 190k miles, black, needs a repaint. Cost me $3600.

Clean reasonably priced cars are out there. It's a waiting game. I agree 100% with better cars becoming cheaper. (FRS, BRZ, 350z, etc.) S13 / S14 prices will plummet. There is a very small population that actually has any interest in these cars. LOL @ all the owners with Barrett Jackson aspirations.

No, that seems to be in line with current prices. Looks very nice, and these cars are getting harder to find. Check out current auction prices, such as this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-240SX...US_Cars_Trucks

I don't think values will drop. As rust and accidents take more 240s off the road, supply will be limited. I don't think Japan has many nice ones left as well, plus they have been exporting these around the world already. Look at what happened to the AE86, even when better cars were available to for less cash. I think 350z prices will continue further downward, while 240sx will stay about the same.
