KA24E Dies Past 2k RPM

I need help ASAP! Basically if I can get this car running, I get it for free. It's my mother-in-law's and her mother was the original owner. It's got 99k miles on it and has been babied.

On to the issue. I thought the Alternator was the only issue. After replacing that and getting it running, idles fine (700-1000 RPM is fine right?) but when I went to drive off it died. I started again and revved slowly to see where the cut off is. It dies after hitting 2000 RPM. I checked the MAF, that is in order. I've yet to replace spark plugs or wires, but i have them on hand. Should I replace those and then check back cause I wasn't sure if that would be the issue...

Hopefully someone can help me troubleshoot this issue and more importantly get me a free pignose.

A 2000rpm rev limit indicates a bad (low voltage) MAF signal. If unplugging the MAF makes no difference, that's the problem.

Unplugging the MAF results in it shutting off, immediately. From my understanding this shows a working MAF.

I'm thinking it could be a vacuum issue. I'm pretty sure the intake is on all the way, as well as the hoses connecting to it.

What car is it? My s13 stays idling after disconnecting the maf, just idles strange and doesn't get the rpms up before dieing shortly.. Another thing to check is fuel pressure, maybe it's adequate for idle but not for higher demands?
Keep an eye on fuel pressure and make sure your getting spark, that's where I'd start.

1990 s13 Hatch. I did some more research and plugs and fuel filter were other possibilities before going into more expensive issues. I might clean the MAF, check the wiring, change plugs and fuel filter on it and see what happens. It's so frustrating cause if I can pull it out the driveway, it's mine for free. I desperately need to get this thing running cause this is one hell of an opportunity.

Did you ever try to pull the ecu codes from the led on the ecu? If it's mass airflow related it will tell you.

But from the sounds of it, it does sound related to that or the ignition coil.

Pic you sit in neutral and hit the gas does it bounce around 2k? Or just flat die at 2k

I hate issues like this. It's running fine now. And it's all mine. I'm still going to replace the parts I bought to replace (plugs, wires, fuel filter) because after sitting for several months it probably needs them anyways. I've no idea when they were last changed. Now on to bigger issues. Like the lake that has completely submerged the spare and the valve cover gasket that has the entire engine coated in oil. Lot of work to be done but I'm so excited to dig in.
