If you live in california HOW did you pass smog with an sr20det engine in your car.
-originally posted on freshalloy... and im searching right now :ghey:
I know this topic has been discussed to death, but I checked the best of 240 forums (EVERY PAGE) I found like two or three topics discussing smog in CALIFORNIA... Arad said it best that the engine was never legal. But I KNOW you people KNOW some people who have passed smog, and have registered your cars. So I am curious as to what tips anyone might be able to give besides the fact that I would have to go to some shop that just totally runs a shady deal to get my car passed. There is a nice helpfull explination concerning swaping engines(below)... As we all know the sr20det was never a California certified engine (possibly something may happen due to jdmevolution.com) Since they are selling state legal s15's and to do that they have to be approved or some silly mess, they have s15's in them so if they are not sold as kit cars or off road vehicles but are made road legal like skylines are I believe. That means they can be registered which means the sr20det engine would be california legal since its a california based company... this is totally my assumption. Anyway have at it brainiacs... I plan on buying an sr swapped 240 in the coming weeks and im wondering how much fun this is going to be going on a goose chase to smog my car. Quote:

I want to flame you, so...SO BAD.
I want to break out the Super Soaker 150 I modified 7 years ago, which I filled with 87 octane, and had a burning rag at the end, and just pump it up to max pressure, target you, and let a burning stream of DEATH hit you in the face....all because you haven't searched good enough. But since I'm nice, I'll break down California SR Smogging. It will never pass a visual inspection. That's all there is to it (off the top of my head). |

Find someone with a car like yours and swap vins. Highly illegal, of course, but if you're that desperate....

There aren't any "legal" S15s in the States, let alone California. All those cars are here on temporary passes or as "off-road" vehicles.
Best idea, if you live in California, and don't want the hassle, stick with an N/A KA. ![]() |

If you buy a car with an SR already installed, it is up to the OWNER ( by law) to smog the car before selling.
Now, you guys might write up a contract saying that you are now responsible for reg' and smog. ( even though it STILL is up to the current owner to smog before selling even if a contract is written) My beef with this is that you're asking on a public forum. stop, think, stop think ... c'mon bro .. ? What do you want out of this ? this kind of info Strong Hand Smog * SR pros* 4293 West-North-South Anneurysm Blvd. Foolblown, CA 90357 213 - 725-0275 Talk to Hand .. Strong hand// he'll hook you up with an illegal smog, koooooool;;;;;;;;; |
