My car-'94 teg LS-Totalled. My options-spend 10,000 to get a Gsr or spend it building a sr20det 240. I know the 240 will have more punch, but how reliable is this JDM engine and what yr of 240 should i be on the look out for to keep this project all under 10 grand. Sorry bout the newbie question but i been driving hondas too long!

THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!! we have saved yet another person from the anals of hell (oops i mean honda :-))....i personally would go with a 91-93 240....they look good, you can find one in good condition for under 5 grand, and that leaves you a bit of money for mods......that's just my 5 cents

Drive the cars and see what you think before you decide! The GSR is a great car out of the box and doesn't require much. An s13 will be considerably older and likely with higher miles and more problems. BUT, if you are replacing everything anyway, it doesn't too much matter. Drive them both and if it's at first drive for the 240, you have a winner.

As for the SR - remember, it is a factory Nissan motor. Nissan is known for making strong, bullet-proof motors and I've yet to hear about how they've cut corners with the SR.

your not gonna find a 94+ gsr teg for under 8g's and that doesnt leave too much for mods. if you get an s13 and put in an s13 sr20 and then change the turbo for a ball berring youll be one fast mofo. then you can spend money (if you have left over) on a boost controller to suck out a little more power. youll be going quick by then

The JDM sr20det is a hella reliable engine...
It can take a shitload of mods, and come back for more.
I suggest getting a 240...and spending all ur cash on the swap, and spend whats left doing it up...
then get more and keep working on it
