Heat shield for Megan and other test pipes with brackets

Ok, living in Cali is dangerous if you are running a test pipe. Popo's don't need a search warrant to look under the car only to see a shiny test pipe instead of a fake cat.

I also see that some test pipes (such as Megan) have brackets for some type of heat shield. I went to the dealer and tried to look for a heat shield for the catalytic converter (Secondary cat for s14's) and neither the s13 nor s14 has a heat shield on the cat.

My question is: What bolts on to the brackets on these test pipes? Are we to fabricate some type of heat shield? I would feel much safer if the test pipe was covered with a heat shield so that it would look like a cat. Thanks for your input

S13s do indeed have heatshields on their cats. Either a.) the person you had looking for a heatshield is mentally deficient, b.) Nissan no longer makes the part, or c.) Nissan never made replacement heatshields.

To follow up what Kevin said. Solutions.
a) Ehh. Go back another day, talk to another, not retarded guy.
b) Go to a junkyard and get one, and/or post in WTB section.
c) See above.

That is weird. I had the guy print out a picture of the exploded view of the exhaust system for both the s13 and s14 and i did not see a heat shield for the cat on either model. The s13 I looked at was a '92. Perhaps they were on the 89-90 models? Either way, option b seems like my best bet. Thanks

All S13s had heat shields. What it may well be is in a parts group. Meaning you might have to buy a whole new cat (very pricey) in order to get a new heatshield.

he is looking for one that wraps around the cat, we all have one bolted too our chasis but it doesnt bolt to the cat, he wants something to make his test pipe look like a cat. best bet is to find one form soemthing else, or hollow a cat out and weld a pipe into it, thats what i did............looks like a factory cat, but its a 2 1/2" test pipe.

my cat had no heat shield, niether did my s14 or s13 parts car, i just check my buddies 91 coupe and it jus thas a rusty ass cat like mine, the only s13 i have seen with a heat shield covering the cat was my friends 92 parts car with a after market cat. i am positive he isnt talking about the heat shield attached to the car but one that cover the cat top and bottom............

It's best to buy a S14 hollow cat from someone like me.

Nice try. That fake cat is the only bottleneck in my exhaust because it is 2.5" and the rest of my exhaust is 80-85mm.

What you do is punch it and then get a 63mm ( I think) pipe and cut it to lenght and the pund it into the cat and the take a dremel and port it smoothe so there is no lip and voila you have a straight cat. it is done quiet often.
