Leaking oil from timing chain tensioner
Hi guys , I'm leaking oil from my timing chain tensioner , was I supposed to use gasket sealer with the gasket, by the way I think both the studs are fucked , I might just try out the mazworx tensioner even though my o e m one is in working order. I'm going to take it out and apply some rtv red and see if that works . If you guys have any suggestions let me know thanks

assuming you're talking about sr20,
- I always use a thin amount of rtv around the timing cover area/oil pump, especially at the corners where the block meets the pump. if you're replacing the oil pump, it is seriously wise to have the pump decked to match the block. if there are height differences it can cause leaks or worse sr20 tensioner definitely uses a gasket, when you say the studs are fucked, are you talking about the timing tensioner studs? |

Yes first thing I'm going to do is try rtv red , see if that helps if not I'm going to have to get new studs and nuts and helicoil them one felt like it was still spinning like the threads were stripped.

Ok I used rtv for my coolant neck is that ok by the way I really appreciate all the help and advise . I been away for my Nissan because I broke a cam cap bolt and was focused on my Subaru build . And I decided to get back to working on this project.

use new gasket every time will prevent that...it surprises me how light the tension is to allow it to work...the mazworx one seems like a great option, I keep using the oem ones with no issue tho...oh and replace the o ring too on the other side!
