Brake stuff
So it seems my front right 240sx caliper is leaking out all of my brake fluid.
So I've got three options now. 1) Rebuild the front stock calipers. (I have nice Carbotech XP-8s in there right now, and the rotors are in good condition) 2) Use the front Silvia (Altima) calipers I have laying around, buy Altima rotors and pads. 3) Use the front J30 (same as Q45 I think) calipers I have laying around, buy rotors, redrill myself, buy some pads. What would YOU do? Thanks Zilvians. |

why have you gone through so many calipers? calipers are not that complex, especially single piston. you have:
- one piston - one seal and one dust cover - sliding pin keep the fluid changed and make sure the caliper slides well (grease the pin) and you're done. why the complexity here? if you want better, go with NA 90 Z32 brakes.. they're small and good. If you want more, go with Z32 turbo brakes. If you want more than that, go with Brembo Z33 brakes. If you want more than that, get an anchor like the batmobile has, it will help you drift around turns too. Mike |

I haven't gone through that many, I've just kind of collected them.
I've had the Silvia ones for 2 years now from my front clip and I've never put them on, and some J30s I thought I may as well grab at the junkyard a week ago. And I've never seen Adam West deploy an anchor from the Batmobile. Edit: Was it Michael Keaton who had the tether that went around poles? |

touche....
For a stock powered car I think the stock calipers with the XP8's still leave something to be desired, the silvia fronts have a much nicer pedal feel to them, but the best I've used is the XP's, 26mm Z32's front and rear and bias valve. I find it much easier to brake at the limit using a sensitive pedal. The stock brakes with XP's vs the Z32s with XP's is like comparing a wet spounge and a rock together.

upgrade the master cylinder and use front AND rear Z brakes and you really feel a much better improvement.
front Z brakes arent enough. a bias valve sounds like it could cure the bias issue but it wont resolve the uneven pedal engagement. |
