weird steering problem

ok, first of all, im pretty sure this isnt an alignment issue. what happens is, when i steer to the left and then drive straight, the wheel sits at an angle. then, when i steer to the right and then go straight, the wheel sits perfectly straight. this is kind of freaking me out, anyone have any idea what it could be? and is it dangerous to drive like this? thanks.

sounds like a bad ball joint to me. Jack the front of the car up, grab the wheel with your hands at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and give it a little shake, pulling with one hand at the same time you push with the other. The goal is to see if it is wobbling. Note this is not the same as putting your hands at 3 and 9 because you will merely be moveing the wheel in the directions necessary to steer the car. Try it out
