Awful noise coming from car, stalling, gah!@
I was driving home one night, and i got on the highway, and i was in about 3rd to get going, and i give it 75 % throttle, i shift at 4800 rpms, and i started to hear a small ticking, almost similar to a harness or something hitting the fan, so i think, ok, ill check it out when i get home, since it was very light and didnt seem to important, i go about 2 miles, it starts getting more aggressive, complete loss of power nearly, i can cruise though, and whenever i clutch in, it stalls, no matter how throttle you give it. So i think, ok, ill pull over at a gas station, the car barely wants to hold idle, will stall out whenever, but if i force it, i can probably get it somewhere, but its just been sitting in my driveway, its very hard to start, but when it does, it seems to hold idle fairly well until you start driving it for a few minutes, i read bout the upper timing chain guide, and how that might have been a possibility, but when i ripped off the valve cover, it was still intact, is it still possible a loose timing chain may cause that, hitting the guide? or is it worse, like valve tap or something? Ill try to get a video of it, gah i hate it!

From the first post it sounds more like a rod knock, i wouldnt sujest driving or starting your car,
Drop your oil pan and look for metal, if there is then you MIGHT be able to get away with a rebuild, if you carry on using it, it will make the crank un-usable for machining. Edit:after hearing it, sorry to say it DEFINATLY sounds like a rod knock, real bad. Time to evaluate a new engine or a rebuild. my 2c |

sorry to bring a old thread back but my car just started doing the same thing.... %&^* i think either my water or oil pump failed but i continued to drive car the car with the tap geting louder. what might of happened was my engine overheated and starved from oil and started acting that way. i would like a update on your car aa87, was it rod knocks? hope it isn't.

mine did that, but I didnt have anywhere to stop, so I tried to keep driving. had to FLOOR it to go anywhere.
the sound will get MUCH worse, and then it will get WAYYYY bad, and then it will boom. and then you're searching for a new motor, instead of a rebuild
