Hi,
I was looking for a post on a ca18det head swap onto a ca20e block and couldn't find it. Has anyone performed this "operation" as such and if so was it worthwhile?

Cheers,

Matt

I think all you need is the crank from a ca20 to get a longer stroke.  If thats all is needed then I think it would be worth while.

meminto, i think you would have a better chance getting
a ford head onto a chevy Lt1 block than to do that transplant.

I read about this in a old Autoworks or an option 2 magazine a fewyears ago. doing that mod is like building a 7ag engine with a toyota.  The concepts are the same.  If you have the ca20 block you can mate the head off of a ca18.  You need to use the crank pulley and the cam pulleys off of the DE engine and the timing marks are going to be the same as the DE engine.  They do it alot in Japan when they build up ca engines.  I've read about that mod alot but I always end up asking myself how about the pistons because you would think that the pistons are indented differently between a single cam and a twin cam motor but who knows it might be the same.  If not you can just use the DE piston because all the CA20 is is a stroked CA18 engine.
