Blown off intercooler piping, now runs like crap

Okay, long story short two dudes thought the other one tightened that clamp. And so on my maiden voyage in my newly SR powered hatch, the intercooler piping came off the turbo first time I hit boost coming up a hill. not a huge problem, it ran like crap all of a sudden, huge cloud of unburned fuel out the back. Pull over and my chase truck tows it home. The problem lies in this: Now when I go to start it, it idles really low bucks like crazy and then dies. Anything bad come from drivin with an open intercooler piping? I'm going to check for codes tonight when get home and reset the ECU, other than that I don't have any clue where to start. Checked all my sensors and nothing came unplugged.

Ummm, yes *ratcheting noises* I already did that...

On a serious note, yes think I got it good and tight now, it's that damn turbo to hot pipe connector on the Greddy kit. Just doesn't fit quite right. But, It's sealed now for sure.

Check the condition of the plugs.... may have been fouled pretty bad. Aside from that, try unplugging the maf to make sure that it isn't a problem with the maf, if it idles ok with it unplugged then that may be your problem. All that is assuming that the car was timed correctly and all, but since you did drive it before hand and it seemed ok I will assume that it was done.

i had that problem , i was racing at racelegal and i revved at 4000 and when i launched i heard a loud pop , my car went no where , and there was lot of smoke coming out . I had to rebuild my turbo because i blew the seals on it and reclamped all my piping and she went back to normal

I keep having problems blowing pipes apart. Everytime you blow one apart if you have to drive it any distance or it has to try and run you can count on having to change badly fouled plugs.

Sadly enough I have them but I have gone through some issues with where to clock the compressor so I just got a pipe fabbed up that I am happy with so I have finally quit blowing them off.

That happened to me on my first long trip with my SR, blew off the hotpipe where it connects to the hot end, endtank pipe... only it was dark for me, interstate highway in the middle of nowhere and 30mi+ from any services ugh... thank god for my wife's excessively bright cellphone for lighting and my leatherman hehee.

How long did you run the engine with the pipe off? Plugs seem like an obvious culprit, but it depends on how hard you revved before shutting down, mine were fine when I popped.

my turbo already had bad seals and was leaking oil , taking it to a race event was and blowing the piping was just finishing the job

Oh make sure you have welded 'lip' beads around the pipes, or even better bead rolled lips if you know someone with a beadroller...
Don't tighten silicone hoses TOO tight because without a little give they'll slip off too...
Make sure to clamp the thing in front of the bead and it should be cool with t bolt clamps to 25 psi

All this information is courtesy of Darren at RnD Dyno who told me all this stuff when I blew the intercooler hosethings like 3 times in one session...
