Unhappy Help: Rear end making weird noise [NOT differential clunk]

hi everyone,

the rear end of my 95 s14 is making weird knocking noise when i driving on bumpy surface on freeway...it almost sounds like something hitting the trunk.

the funny thing is it doesnt make that noise when i hit big bump on freeway...

its not differential clunk, because i have SPL subframe spacers installed, i know how it sounds like and i already used to it.

could that be bad axles? something wrong with my open differential?
please help me figure out this problem, since that noise is killing me and make me want to get rid of the car

any help will be highly appreciated...

I tried:
1. took out everything in the trunk - no luck
2. secure the spare tire - no luck
3. change differential fluid, although it doesn't seem like helping this issue, i thought i'd just give it a try. - no luck
4. i checked the trunk latch too - no luck

Theres only a couple thing I can think of. Maybe check the jack and tire stuff. Or make sure your shocks arn't blown, or that your toe adj, and camber adjs are tight. Make sure your exhaust isn't hitting somewhere.Thats about all I can think of! Good luck!

My friend's s14 has sounds on bumps because his exhaust hangers are fucked. so his muffler hits his underbody

theres a little bracket that extends from the tranny mount to the exhaust that holds it in place. if its broken the exhaust will move around alot and bump against the bumper.

to see if the exhaust is your issue, sit in the car. have one of your buddies push up and tap the exhaust against the rear bumper. the noise is pretty unique.

otherwise maybe its just your trunk tapping. see if those rubber stopper things are worn out.

that's what mine did but when i took the muffler off it went away.. it also made the noise when I was at a complete stop and I had my friend get out and check it and the muffler was not moving.
therefore.. it was the insides of the muffler.. the packing

get under your car.. rattle the exhaust and see if it hits somewhere..

remove the muffler and see if the noise still persists.
