To keep or scrap VVT????

just wondered what everyone thought would make more power. Scrapping vvt and upgrade to bigger cams and s13 gears, or obviously keeping it as is??????

mods already include power fc, gt2874r, fmic, underdrive pulleys, fuel pump/fpr, 600cc injectors, z32 maf & etc...

VVT is good for Daily Driving. Ditch it if you are going for top end HP.

Some of the "stage 1" cams are made to work with VVT. The big boy "stage 3" don't.

Yup, VVT is awesome for daily.

I may be wrong, but i read in some magazine that when you push high HP and have your stock "VTEC" on, it'd actually slow it down, as its trying to figure how much more fuel to add, etc etc.

Personally, i'd scrap VVT if i was pushing +400hp. So really, i'd keep the VVT forever.

yea i seen that the stage 1 256 cams are made to work with it. My goal is 400 whp, and it isn't a daily driver so maybe scrapping vvt wouldnt be half bad?

Why did you get the VVT engine if you got rid of the T28 and now the VTT?

this is my second summer on the t28 i want something that can handle more boost.

its not that i want to get rid of the vvt, but i wanna get some extra hp and if that means scrapping vvt all together so be it you know?

This is cognitive dissonance at work. You paid alot of money for something you like, and don't wish to be told that it sucks now, or was a bad choice for whatever reason.

However, s13 sr20det are used for nearly every single 400+rwhp sr20det. The s13 has a much more efficient head because it doesnt' have to make room for the vvt. So yes, once you remove the vvt and t28.. the s14 motor is a poor choice for a motor. You spent more money for a motor with extras that make it nice for mid-power levels and daily driving. Removing those and getting an inferior motor just cannot be reasoned as "acceptable" for any reason. The only thing that now sets your motor apart is the valvecover... and powdercoating an s13 sets it further apart than another s14 cover. And saves you the $400+ motor price difference.

well i decided to keep vvt, but upgrade the existing setup. so i have to go 256 on the intake side. I can go 264 on the exhaust side would there be any benefit to going with a slightly highier duration on the exhaust side???? i can run stage 1 or stage 2 which do you think would help(i realize the cams arent going to make the mark) me reach my 400 whp goal???

You can get step 2 or 3, 256 or 264 intake camshafts from HKS that are VTC compatible.

My tuner told me to keep mine for my S-car,
He told me to run Tomei IN 270 12.5 EX 260 12.0 with adjustable cam sprocket for EX side only.

will be interesting to see how things work out.

sounds like a cool set up paul.

The exaust cam sprocket will give you adjustment to properly tune for the overlap.

not japanese?

cheers mate
