Head Gasket question
Ok I got the head off my coupe todayand the head gasket was not only blown, but annihilated. It had blown all the way to the out side of the block, not just between cylinders. All the head bolts on the exhaust side were loose except for the front and very back ones. My question is this common or did the head bolts not get torqued down? I am going to say that the motor has been rebuilt because there is no ridge at the top of the cylinders.

The head lifting off the block. As the head lifted up, it pulled on the bolts. Head bolts are usally only a one shot deal. If the engine was rebuilt and the reused the bolts, that's why they streached so easly. Cause you usally only lift the head when you are boosting.
You may as well invest in some ARP head studs. |
