Window Tint

The window tint that was on my car when I bought it is turning to crap.

-The back driver side "window" is peeling up from the bottom
-The rear window is turning hazy and bubbling making it hard to see out of
my rear view mirror
-and the driver side door window is peeling from the top and peels away a
little more each time I roll my window down then back up.

I went to Autozone and Pepboys and all I saw for window tint was riced out colored/mirrored tint or stuff that ghey dragons and crap all over it that would look horrible.

My question(s) for you guys is/are should I replace it myself? Is it even worth it to do it myself or would it be cheaper to have it done at a shop or something? Has anyone done their own tint, what brands are good and what light transmission percentage should I get? Where can I get quality tint that will look good?

this is the darkest legal tint in FLA...cost me just over 100$ to have it professionally done. its worth it to pay for it if you don't have experiance tinting. i also got a 3 year warranty with it

If you to ask, you're not ready to try your tint install. Take it somewhere to have it redone.

99% of OTC tint is trash anyway, and there's no warranty offered.

you should ALWAYS leave tinting to the pro's who do it all day, everyday.
I've NEVER seen a home job that didn't look like crap (OR started peeling/bubbling/purpling after a short time).

It's cheap as far as car mods go, do it right, or be laughed at for having bubbly, wrinkled, purple, all-around-crappy-looking tint.

OT: a friend of mine just got an old foxbody mustang last weekend, I rode along. We got pulled over and he got a fixit ticket. Why? Cuz the cop said that the rear tint was so bad ( bubbled/wrinkled) that it would impair rear visibility too much for street legality (car had no side view mirrors, just rear).

Friends don't let Friends do their own tint

taking off tint yourself should be okay, it may be time consuming,
but never put tint by yourself,
get it done by pros, price wise, they're not too bad, and some come with lifetime guarantee (as long as the shop's still doing business, if it's reputable, it'll be there...)

I'd be very picky about the "pros" you take the car too as well. Not all shops who tint do a good job. Also, the brand of film will matter.

i might have to disagree here...i did my own tint over 2 years ago using Gila limo black 20% tint and it still looks just as good as it did when i put it on...no discoloration, no peeling/bubbling, its all good. Tinting isn't hard (except the back window in the s14, which i will NOT do on my own), just be patient and follow the directions.
