i was driving through town today.  i took of once in first pretty hard, then shifted to second. after i shifted, it felt like i hit a bump in the road or something.  i could kinda feel my rear diff. jerk.  i shifted pretty fast, though.  could i have messed something up?  it shifts fine now.

you should be fine.  sounds like you may have released the clutch a little too fast and slammed it into gear creating drive train shock.  Remember..  Shifting fast does NOT mean shifting hard.
