new apexi ats active tail silencer??

Apexi sells the ats active tail silencer
http://apexi-usa.com/news_article.asp?id=4

Has anyone picked one of these up? I dont trust the little image they have there. They show 3 different boost levels and powers. 19psi, 10psi, 15psi. Yes I know its the flow limitation but its lame. 3 different boost levels will produce 3 different powers. I want to see a baseline. all 3 devices @ 10psi and know what it REALLY does. sneaky marketing limited that however. I want to know if any of you guys have any real world experience with one of these. I have a na ka with intake, header, 3 in test pipe, and 3 in straight attain titanium exhaust (similar to n1) it was bearable with the stock cat but when I put the test pipe in.... thats when the regular headaches started. I know when I put the turbo in it will quiet down alot but I cant stand it right now. something has to be done and I hate it but I want to make sure I wont lose too much power... Didnt see anything (searched) on the forum about one of these (surprising) so I was just wondering about peoples input...

It's basically a cone on a piston. As the exhaust flow goes up the pressure pushes the cone back and allows more flow. The center is like a standard silencer and the outer section is the cone. Who knows how much hp it takes to push this cone back. I would like someone with a N1 or GTspec to dyno with Open/Silencer/ATS.

I also haven't seen a dyno of the PS exhaust system ether which uses the same system internally.

I wanna see graphs too, or atleast SOMEONES testimonial that runs it. i dont like the way they have it listed. "wow gained 128whp from this!" lame marketing. I know its gonna cost hp, hell I cant even find anyone with a dyno comparison of with a silencer and without! nevermind this unit...

i cant carry on a conversation in my car, i have to turn my music up to the peak of my speakers to be able to hear it, i DEFINITELY have to be attracting cop attention the way it is and the way I drive I dont need it. I get headaches from it now, my neighbors complain, my gf just about refuses to ride in my car. It was louder than any exhausts ive heard on any of my friends cars with the stock cat in, now with the test pipe it easily shot up 8-10db and drones on the highway. id have to say I need to do something because its gotten beyond obnoxious. id rather not muffle out any other sounds with illegal headphones giving the cop another reason to pull me over... rather be more discreet...

im all about ditching everything for ultimate hp gain tweaking every last bit but its still a street car.

Why waste the money on something that will reduce your hp, just put your cat back in - free silencer! Then put the test pipe back in when you are on the track.

thats alot more work... bit of a pain in the ass to swap a cat in and out, my cat was messed, rusty, and always leaked. This is a solution that shouldnt cost TOO much hp while being a bit more stealth and "streetable". Leaving me quiet at low throttle and giving me the hp gains at heavy flow of the exhaust. I know I can put a stock exhaust or cat on but I dont want to.... Anyone out there with real world experience with these things?

ROFL...did anyone notice how they said that "D-sport" gained 128 whp from changing out the regular silencer to the new ATS?

I've been lookin' at this product as well. I have the 5zigen rocket exhaust w/ a highflow cat and it's LOUD. Right now I'm runnin' with the silencer, but can tell that I've lost considerable amounts of HP. I can't even keep up with a S2000 when it's on. So I have talked to Autobacs and i'll be ordering it from them sometime. This is the best thing I've found other than getting out and taking off my silencer whenever I want to run. Other than that is the exhaust control valve that bolts to the cat.

I would just place this http://www.atpturbo.com/root/release...ust_System.wmv in place of the stock cat and then run the stock exhaust after it. 3" DP to this = fun times.

well i have one installed on my n1 evo catback. under low rpms it stays quiet, but when i open up the throttle the sound gets progressively louder and you notice that the exhaust flow feels less restrictive than when it was closed. i cant speak for horsepower numbers, but you can feel a differnce between open and closed. ive had it on with a test pipe and a magnaflow high flow universal cat and the ats keeps it quiet under both conditions. it almost sounds like theres no modified exhaust system with the cat and the ats in there when you cruise. ive heard my car from following it and driving it around so i would recommend it to anyone who really wanted thier silencer to open up when they need it to...

heres a pic of it on my car:
the only mods done to it that would effect the sound are injen intake, obx header, magnaflow cat, and apexi n1 evo exhaust.

nice! someone who actually runs one. flip: how would you compare it to the silencer that came with your exhaust? i.e. 50% less hp loss, big low end loss not so much high end loss, however? does the car only feel choked @ low rpm/throttle or does it feel like its still really holding back @ high rpm or so? what about top end compared to what it would be like without that in there at all?

That thing is one FUGLY-TACKY-ASS POS mang. Take it off an have an extra resonator welded into your exhaust somewhere. It lowers dB and won't make ur exhaust look like it belongs in a blender.

Damn Kurt, I have 2 sets of graphs for 240's about that already.
We dyno'd Kory's s14 just last month for the dyno day I held for ONE. 98 S14, apexi N1 and I for some reason can't remember if he had an intake or not... but it made 127rwhp 139 torque w/ silencer, and 143rwhp 153torque w/o.
I have graphs if you really need to see them.....
I also have a set somewhere from a ka-t that gained 48rwhp by removing the silencer on an N1 as well.

And back to the topic at hand, holy hell that thing looks ugly. That thing could fart out dollar bills and I still wouldn't put it on my car

hmm... id say it feels like its holding back through all rpm ranges, but you notice that it opens up at 4-5k. i cant really compare to a regular silencer because the n1 evos dont come with one. im also not sure about top end, havent really gunned it around with the silencer in. i only use it when i go on trips outside familiar areas.
