240Z Diff. Question

Hello,

I did a search for this and I couldn't find any info on it whatsoever. Basically I am wondering if a 240Z (which has a R200) Differential will fit on my S14. I was told 240SXs have R200R diffs, and that the two will not comply. I know that the R200 in the 240Zs have 4 bolt output shafts (not sure if that's the correct word). It would seem to me that if a R200 300ZX diff works when you have those output shafts why wouldn't one of these work? If anyone has any definitive answers about this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
Stephen

R200 in the Schassis, R180 in the older Zs from what Nissan Motorsports lists. Even if that's incorrect, the mounting of either type is completely different and the output shafts don't interchange.

nope, not without serious mods....

The z r200 is a long nose r200 while the 240sx one is a short nose. Other than being over 2" longer the mounting style is different, stub axles are different, and rear cover is totally different.

Okay, I didn't think it would work, I appreciate the help guys. Looks like I get to fork out for a LSD for my own diff, haha.

Thanks again,
Stephen

Sweet, thanks man

The Z car I am referring to is a 71 240z race car with a N/A L28, it has an R200 with a torsion diff in it. It is pretty bad ass, but I didn't know that info about the Z cars so that is good to know.

Thanks
Stephen

How Much Can You Get It For.... I Would Like To Get A Helical Diff For My '72 Sr Powered Car. Depending On How Much They Want I'd Buy It For A Track Diff.

Buy It And Just Sell It To Buy Something Else.

Not quite. Output shafts are too long since they're fitted for the ABS sensor.

510,610,710, R160 810, not sure but I Believe it was a R200
240Z was a R180
260Z was a R180
280Z was a R190
280ZX was the first Z car to run the R200, I have put R200's out of 280zx's in 240Z's.

those 240z diffs suck.. alot of the higher hp guys tend to custom mount r200 or r230s on their car cuz the r180s cant take shit

No it was not....

The R190 was a Nissan performance Diff (Only Z to get it was the 432R) that is leagues stronger than the R200. It only found its way into a few cars... The 432R is the only Z to get graced with its presence. Its also known as a holy grail diff just like the S20 motor is the holy grail of nissan Motors.
The First Z Car to recieve the R200 was the 1975 (I originally thoguht only the 280z Gen II's got the R200 but its actually both Gens) Manual 280Z's with the 3.545 FD.
Don't Believe me search Hybrid Z, Classic Z club, Zcar.com, or just scroll through here: http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/

I think as it was a limited slip rear end, it was the R192 in the 432R. Could be wrong though.

Funny you say the r180 can't take shit.... Why are there 400whp cars with r180's?
Just look through Hybrid Z you'll find tons of examples. The early stub axles and half shafts always break long before the diffs.

Anywya all this is moot because the original post is looking at a 240Z race car with a R200 That has a Quieffe or ATB Helical Limited Slip Installed.... Unless it has a True Torsen LSD, even though those have been out of production for a long time.

Your right: http://zhome.com/History/432Z.htm
Its just commonly refered to as just the R190 diff.
